There just seems to be a smaller market for these cars. Usually an older customer base and not tuner guys.

My car was an SL65 with a bunch of mods, cosmetic and performance, and it was reasonably priced I thought. It still sat for months until a guy who had it on his bucket list bought it.

Consignment definitely helped find a buyer. The reach of a dealer is just so much greater than a private sale. It was well worth the few grand it cost me to consign.

 

Bring a Trailer might be a good venue, there's a few AMG cars for sale there now.

I can't think of ANY other car that has this much power, luxury, and looks for this price...the mid 2000s SL55 are a bargain right now. A friend of mine has owned several and raves about the reliability and performance.
