the search is on

Hello,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I've been looking for an 06-07 V8 Vantage for a couple of years now and things are finally aligning. Very nearly picked up an '06 in the DC area this past fall (curiously next door to AM Washington, at Koon's Toyota of all places) but things fell through. I recently relocated to Tampa, Florida so I'm trying to feel out likely local sales, service and other details in my new area. Specifically I'm looking for an '08 or earlier traditional manual transmission in the seemingly more common grey/silver with a piano black interior. Things have seemed a little dry in the market lately so any suggestions are appreciated! I have to say I've learned a TON reading the forum for the past couple of years, you guys know 'things'!

Stay patient and don't settle for a "deal". Find a source for a PPI. I ended up with my dream DB9 in 2018. It was well worth the hunt.

Thanks Bob, that is solid advice. I spoke to the used car sales manager at A.M. Tampa earlier this week to see what they would say about auction searches and was told that they almost never see a V8 Vantage of that era on trade and never buy them at the dealer auctions because any repairs eliminate the dealer profit. I assume that auction prices then are pretty comparable to retail sale prices right now. Incidentally, I've looked at three Vantages which have all been at dealers, including the infamous Doug Demuro car the day before he bought it from A.M. Washington, a yellow '07 at Land Rover Alexandria, and finally the '06 at Koons which was by far the cleanest and lowest mileage at 27K.

I'm sure others will chime in. I'll go first. I would never buy an Aston Martin from someone or dealer who found the car at an auction. I'm the 3rd owner of my 2005 DB9. I bought it from an individual who owned it for 11 years prior to selling. We had many conversations prior to the sale. Service records were provided and a thorough PPI was performed by a reputable third party. Only then did the negations on price begin. Once everything checked out, the sale was quick. I have been driving and enjoying the car ever since. It was delivered with 96xx miles in 2018. it is now approaching 20K. I drive the car and plan on keeping it so mileage is not a concern of mine. It's the best!!

I found my 07 on Flea Bay at an exotic car dealer in Chicago it had been bought at auction after being repossessed at least twice in its life . That was 6yrs ago . The car only had 18,000 miles on it when I got it .I bought the car just off the pics and a few others I asked for , the deal was all done by email I bought my wife’s Z4 coupe the same way . Had the cars shipped to Ogdensberg NY and did all the import brokerage stuff myself .
Car has been great , no issues and I do all my own maintenance..
I spent three years looking for my car , missed out on a couple of others but I was particular in that I did not want a black interior and it had to be stick shift .

Your Vantage is out there Marmot and you will know it when you see it.

Sometimes the search can be part of the enjoyment (and challenge) of finding your chariot.

Wishing you the best in your search and look forward to your purchase announcement.

It's funny how the right car shows up.

I went up to a (now closed) "exotic" used car lot at Lake Norman, NC to look at a Porsche 911 GTS they had for sale on their website. Saw this 2013 Vantage, stratus white/chestnut tan, 13.5K 6MT on the lot. Within 30 seconds of spotting it, I said to myself "If this thing cranks up on the first try, I'm buying it." It did - and I did. I was completely smitten with this thing. Truly love at first sight.

Car lot took a personal check and I was driving it off the lot within 30 minutes of a very brief test drive. Left my 2000 Ford F150 truck on the lot and drove up 2 weeks later with my (very skeptical) wife to pick up the truck. That was about 3 years ago and it has been a great ride ever since. Would not consider selling the car. WAY cooler than that Porsche I drove 7 hours to see. Yeah, pretty foolish (and very much out of character for me), I know, but it worked out well. YMMV. Good luck in your search! These are fabulous, and undervalued, cars, IMO.

I have an 06 manual Meteorite Gray with only 13,000 miles that I bought last year, I’m considering putting up for consignment at $55kish

I’'ve put some good $$ into it and only driven it about 500 to 700 miles, I take it out every other Sunday or at the latest three weeks, and have never had to charge the battery(new), I'’ve also done any and everything that it needed after I bought the car.

The wheels are from a 16 GTS (take of at 600 miles) and they fit perfectly with brand new Michelin super sports 295 and 255s no need for spacers are lowering springs.

I also did a little Exhaust Work and had it tuned to not open the valves till 5500 which is perfect, car has a great growl to it and then it really comes on at high revs.

You can PM me your phone number if interested...

Welcome to Florida, the land of year round driving! You will know when you have found the right one - you'll know when it's right for you to pull the trigger. Don't hesitate too long as there is competition for the Aston equipped like you want. Good luck in your search, others including me, have searched and found. Yours is out there!

You are a lucky guy! on line deals are not all negative a thorough background check and a little luck could land you your dream car. BAT is a good source too.

You guys are awesome! Thank you for all the advice, I think I'm lucky that I have spousal support on this too! My budget is at or below $40K which doesn't seem to be a huge problem yet. I will keep the forum informed of anything I find!

I should add that I'm a Land Rover guy since the very early 2000s with my first '94 Discovery 1, then a '72 Series III, another '98 Discovery 1, and a '95 Range Rover Classic soft dash most recently, as well as having been a parts guy and a British classics part timer mechanic (a lot longer ago in the last century) I still have the Series III. All that is to say I am fairly confident in my abilities mechanically within reason and not nearly as concerned by 'British' problems as some and somewhat confident doing a PPI on my own, but I usually bring along a buddy who's a certified Mercedes tech for professional opinions.

Is anyone familiar with this car? Its been listed on CarGurus for nearly 600 days...I am curious if anyone has any insights into this one beyond price? I've emailed with the seller but figured it was worth asking if anyone had familiarity.

I am looking for basically the same car. 06-08 manual. They are out there but the competition is high. I have been looking for almost a year, not in a rush, I just don’t want to travel during the pandemic. Saw one on eBay last summer, which was traded in at a Porsche dealer and sold to the current selling dealer in November. The original listing on eBay stated very honestly that the clutch would be an issue soon. Selling dealer has no clue of any issues. Buying from a private party is definitely on the top of my list. BTW the delta between selling auction price (I have access to MMR) and current selling price is $8K and selling dealer did not make any repairs except for detailing the car. And most listings on Mannheim for that vintage Vantage are from dealers looking for way too much money and no service records or history. My search goes on.
