there is a heavy core charge if you try to buy a factory battery so a discharged battery that has been sitting would be good for that...if you need a replacement you should look at alternatives from Optima and Odyssey...do a search....there are a lot of threads of alternatives (each have different mounting and cable problems)...and it ends up being more expensive than a stock replacement...but you can lose some weight up front...also, see this thread..

I took mine out couple of months ago fron my 997s because my trickle charger was taking longer to charge than it was new. I replaced it with a battery from local autopart store prophylactically because I didn't want to be stranded with a dead battery. No problems. I keep my OEM battery charged up just in case. OEM battery I noticed is much heavier than the replacement.

i have one that fits in stock location without modification. it's made by johnson control which supplies just about all aftermarket ones. less than a year old and on battery tender. i'm in SF bay area though...
