The lower suspension mounts on the rear of the 997 and 996 are different, I would be careful crossing generations.

996 mounts, look at the rear/bottom





997 mounts rear/inside (I think)

Thanks Heavy, makes sense. Even though those for the 997 are the new "club sports" with the adjustments on the shock itself, I can see what you mean
