Thanks. What does FP HTA stand for? I can't really make out TiAL's website very well.

FP = Forced Performance

HTA = is a super sweet line of turbos by FP

Thanks again. I thought that FP stood for Forced Performance but got confused since I thought this was a TiAL turbo? So TiAL is using FP's HTA compressor and then modifies the hotside to make it a direct bolt-on for P-cars? So that's a TiAL turbo?

Nope. Tial started making Porsche specific stock location turbos in 02-03. That line has evolved from using modified cast iron OEM hotsides to current stainless steel units, Tial also went through several cold sides and compressor wheels throught the evolution of what is now the Alpha turbo. Tial makes the hotside from scratch in house, in the USA. This is done to make it direct fit stock style headers and exhaust and also to be able to use stock oil lines, oil colelctor drain tanks and adapt waterlines as well as use stock interoolers and hoses. Custom housing was needed because OEM ones are way to restrictive and have tiny A/Rs. There is also a special internal wastegate design in these that allows more precise boost control and awesome flow. Another big thing is being able to make a "big" turbo in a small package. Which is also the reason why Heffner uses Tial turbos on their R8 and Ferrairi twin turbo kits.

Ofcourse noone's twisting anyones arm to go Tial. You could buy two nice billet ballbearing turbos at 1.5-1.7k each. Get custom made headers with extrenal wastegates, you will also need a custom exhaust made or hack up the one you have to adapt the regular hotside to it. Then you have to make the oil lines work, adapt water lines (optional). Then you have to make your inlet pipes work, then you have to make your intercooler hoses work or get hard piping made. Get my drift? And there are quiet a few people who have done all that stuff to meet their power needs.

Great explanation. Much appreciated (I just "repped" you). How are you enjoying your new turbo compared to what you had before (which I don't know)? Is it all that you anticipated?

when i drove it home it was very fast. it did meet and even exceed my goals and expectations. my old Tial K24/GT3076 (1st gen EvoMS GT800 kit turbos) got to 555 tq at 4500rpm while these got there 500rpm earlier and keep climbing to make another 100ft-lbs over what i had before. it rained yesterday so ididnt drive it at all. if it doesnt rain tonight i have an intersting lineup of runs. Kenne Bell 2.6L Terminator, AMS Alpha 9 GTR and a Busa.

Those k24/3076s were a bad design from the start.... just like when we stuffed a 18g wheel in a K16... didnt work well..

yup. i did one run last night with the AMS Alpha 9. he got squiggly at top of frist gear and let off and then got back on it but couldnt catch. my lower intercooler hose blew off and smaked the ground with the metal ring as i shifted into 4th so i just coasted and GT-R didnt catch. first 3 gears felt good. hose got ruined so i couldnt run the busa, the 2.8L KB Cobra never showed. busa beat the GTR 40-160 roll. Binh beat up on my buddies 335 in his 996tt.

Are you running metal lower turbo and intercooler pipings and not the silicone ones?

Let me know when the next action night is coming...I might have to take the tripdown for some action and to check out your monster man. Shoot me a PM with your number, we will exchange texts and set it up. Congrats again on the super strong numbers. Killer!

You seem to have fun racing (so do I). Aren't you curious what your 60-130 time is? I know I would be after an upgrade and tune like yours. Road test is the ultimate test. Dynos are for tuning. You should try and connect the two, jmo.
