New Forge Motorsports 996tt Intercoolers

Over the winter I have been working on a few little things here and there. One of them was going to a full line of Forge Motorsport products for the 996tt. I started with just the silicone hoses and was very happy with quality and fittment so I got their latest and greatest 008 Recirculation valves with 23psi springs in them along with their brand new 996tt intercoolers. These are made in the U.K and my set is the first set in the U.S and the 2nd set produced. I saw really impressive results from the U.K test car, hopefully I will be able to gain from these as well on a higher powered car.

15.2 x 8.6 x 3.6 inches Bar & Plate Core.

Took a few weeks to get from U.K. They came in and we had them installed in a matter of an hour since my plastic shrouds were already trimmed for the 997.2 GT2RS units. Fittment was spot on and Forge hoses must be used since the end tanks get rid of the pesky C spring clamps.

I know first question will be why I decided to step up from 997 ICs and it really came down to larger free-er flowing/less restrictive cores, metal end tanks and no spring clamps. I was constantly paranoid that I was going to explode the plastic end tanks at my power level .

Are you selling the 997.2?

You should have asked Forge to pay for a solid comparaison between the two, dyno runs, temp comparaison and if their products ends up being better than the 997.2, they would sell a lot. Since you had both, it would have been the right time to compare.

I see the Apexi sign on the box, are they Apexi core? If so, these are nice, they were the best thing you could get for the rx-7 platform.

Damn, you got bit hard by the mod bug! I like the outlet end tank. They address a item that I see as a problem with some other brands. I can't wait to see dyno numbers!

thats a tig welder and he just stole my Forge sticker hehe jk

i'm not sure what cores these are. given that they are made in the U.K I would expect a eurpean brand though.

Its winter time - good time to freshen up the setup and step the game up. Im also at a point where I am trying to make more power through efficiency rather then bumping the boost up more. will have a dyno day soon

I wouldn't buy a set of IC's unless there was compelling test data like we have for the 997.2's.

True. Someone always has to be the first to test them though, like Earl was with 997.2s - right? I have seen test results from the U.K car and I was impressed. I like my 997.2s but at my power level I just did not have confidence in the end tanks and those hose clips annoyed the crap out of me. I am well aware that the 997.2s can hold 1.5 bar but 1.5bar from stock turbo and 1.5 bar from A3076 are not the same things. The Alphas will flow much more air that pressure.

Either way - I am going to dyno after the exhaust is finished.

Yes indeed. Please share your data when you test them out! What did those bad boys run you?

Your ICs look nice but with regards to whether or not the .2 end tanks can hold 1.5 bar, it doesn't matter if it's 1.5 bar from stock turbo or A3076. Pressure is pressure.

Why not have the OP send one of these intercoolers to Earl and he could hook it up to his test rig and do a direct comparison to the 997.2 IC? I'm sure he could turn it around in a few days and save the OP the trouble of testing, especially since he does not have the 997.2 IC anymore and can't do a direct comparison anyway. Only and apples to apples test is valid. A dyno is not going to tell you much, you need real world testing just like Earl did. I'm sure the members here would pitch in on the shipping to see the results. I would. My bet is still on the 997.2 IC. These Forge look beefy and are nice and shiny though....
