Anyone have trouble filling up gas with SRM fuel system?

I recently bought and had a SRM fuel system installed on my car. Initial impressions were WOW, high quality stuff. Once we went deeper in the install some problems and overlooks on their part started surfacing. One was that the jet pumps were getting too much fuel and not enough was actually going to the rail, guys at Undercover fixed that for me after trying several restrictor sizes they got one that works.

Next the car isn't taking gas from VP plastic racing jugs (normally not a problem for Porsches). I get in touch with SRM, they say try this try that, try getting gas at fuel pump etc. Getting gas at fuel pump i can only press the handle lever 1/4 way up and hold it there for a few seconds or max .2 Gallons go in before it clicks off. I had to repeat that about 65 times yesterday fill up my tank, people at the pump thought I was strange

According to SRM there are a lot of these kits out on the road, is there anyone that is using a SRM full kit or SRM top fuel hat that can fill up their car normally? I find it hard to believe that my hat is the only one that has a problem.

How does the fuel pump impact the fuel filler neck? (A question of ignorance) - I assume it's pressure / vent related? The pressure in the fuel tank reaches a certain level and triggers the fuel nozzle to stop filling? I've never actually wondered how it worked before.

I'm running in the 996 with no problems. However I noticed with the 997 that the container the holds the pumps doesn't seem to have a big overflow or an area to overflow like the 996. There is a pipe that runs from fuel filler that fills the catch tank. My though is that if that can't overflow than that could be your problem.

Btw - do you have info on the restrictors for the jet pumps? I'm having fuel pressure problems with mine runing twin e85 walbros. Fuel pressure is jumping around 8-10psi which isn't right.

Thanks for your input will look into that. I had the same issue with fuel pressure jumping on my ProEfi logs. Undercover machined a nitrous jet holder into an AN fitting that goes to feed the jets. At first we tried 64 thou and that was good for pump gas on E85 ran into the same issue again and stepped down to 40 thou. Sean should have the info and be able to supply the fix for you on that.

Hopefully we will get the filling issue sorted soon.

thanks for the info!

Yeah - the fuel filler definitely fills into the basket with the pumps. Otherwise when you run out of fuel there would be no way to restart the car.

With all the lines coming out of the top of the basket on the 997 SRM kit I wonder if it's some how limiting flow when your filling the car. Worth looking into.

No issues with mine filling.. BUT

I ran it out of gas, and I had to completely fill it to get it to start (that sucked btw). wondering if the tube that connects the filler to the basket didnt stay put.

I dont like all that shoved into the basket. When I pull the motor out this winter I am going to make some brackets to hold the lines I think..

SRM did sent me the updated restrictor and it seems to work around 750-800rwhp on E85. I started to see some pressure loss above that.

I am running stock lines, so that might be it for them. I am ordering the rest of the system from SRM.

Mark not sure of the other stuff but the VP Jug filling and occasional gas pump filling is not SRM related. I have had this problem for YEARS on my car (stock and both fuel setups) and Matt's 997TT (COMPLETELY stock fuel system) from time to time. Not sure exactly what causes it but it is a HUGE pain in the butt.

i never had an issue with my 996 and jugs and 997 was fine too at the pump and with jugs. 996 was finicky with few older gas pumps where i had to turn the pump handle like some other guys have posted.

they sent me some new fitting for the hat. garth is installing it now. slow annoying process.

I assume my "home made" system is very similar to the SRM surge setup? I only fill my car from barrels/drums and have never had a problem.

you have a stock fuel hat that is why it works fine. my "home made" system took gas too.

Was a solution found here? Was it the pressure valve up top on that hat? I know Sean swapped out a bunch of these after the Dorman part turned out to be junk. What other mods were needed if any?
