Garrett Intercoolers for 997 plataform.

It was revealed at Sema 2016. Does anyone know the specs and price? It looks massive.

AMS is rated as one of the best. With 5.5" thick core do you feel the same about it?

Yes I do. They no doubt make some lovely products and have produced some very powerful cars over the years but in regards to cooling vtg cars I do not see how having 5.5inch coolers can make a huge difference over a gt2 core. You are going to end up with a big pressure drop and massive heat soak. If you switch to a conventional style AM turbo kit then you will see less of these issues but again you will eventually suffer from heat soak because of where the coolers are located.

Front mount oversized cores do no not suffer as much because of their location so you can get away with using a cheaper core.

Thanks. Maybe that is why meth kits and E85 fuel is being used more and more lately.

AMS ICs worked great on my stock VTGs, improved spool and 2mph increase in trap speeds. You guys that bash the big coolers should really do some testing on the AMS ones first.

Intercooler quality and design (particularly with the end takes) can have a drastic effect on IAT suppression and avoiding heat soak. These do look most comparable to the AMS cores with a more flow-focused end tank design (vs. the "standard" squared off sheet metal).

I can vouch for the AMS kit also, it has performed well on my car. For my purposes, a street car, they are awesome. I don't have data on a track so I cant debate on performance in that environment.

Below are plots of one of my logs in 3rd (both temp and press, same data set). Put the car in 3rd gear below 1500rpm and went WOT. Judge for yourselves on how laggy or not laggy it is.

On the Garrett kit, it will be a great set of intercoolers. I have used their cores on many projects with great results. Great to see we have more options.

What evidence do you have to support this assertion that is contrary to what I, and many, have seen in the past?

I do not need to support anything.

If you are happy to buy them and fit them be my guest.

I have yet to see anyone post any data about AMS coolers showing them to be in any way inferior to the smaller cores coolers..... just sayin

Both have valid point of views but for those not willing to buy the best/expensive available at the market will the ratio $$$/performance worth $5.000 IC's vs combo GT2 IC's + WMI (or E85 fuel conversion)???

Why not just get SRM intercoolers? Marginally more expensive then the GT2 pieces, easily will out perform them, and you won't need to re-upgrade if you ever decide to push more power.
