Anyone go from a 911S to a CGT

I'm starting to think about my next car and I've always like the looks of the CGT. Would it be a strange transition to go from a 911 to the Bentley. I want something that can be used as a daily driver, hauling my 3 year old son around and be fun when I'm by myself.

I'm fairly young at 31. I wonder if I will look out of place in this car.

What do you guys think

I went from a 997 to the CGT, and I do not regret it one bit. The CGT is much more comfortable, much smoother, and based on what I have seen, more respected. A Porsche is a fine automobile, but I can promise you that the CGT is a better all around experience.

I thinking of doing this because I need to give my license

a break. The 911 just eggs me on, I thinking with the CGT being much more luxury oriented maybe I can keep my foot out of it. I do understand its a fast car but I'm hoping its won't bring out my boyish tendencies

i drove a CGT a couple weeks ago with a friend of mine. it is defiently way more comfortable then a 911. to my surprise there absolutely no room in the back if two 5'10" people are in the front. its a fast car till about 70mph and after that the perfomance fades and is just average.

as far as looks and status goes, definetly a high status item but i did notice that the looks we got in it are completely different then i get in my turbo. people looked at us like a pair of young d-bags.

I have a 997TT and the CGT speed
If I could only one it would be the B hands down
It does everything so well.

I haven't driven the 911 in 4 months and drive the bentley nearly every day

That tells the whole story

So how far along are you with the swapover?

I'm not much help as a Porsche owner, since I've never had one, but I did do one of their World Days last year, driving Carrera's, GT1, GT3 etc, and I was blown away by how great they are on the track and in extreme driving conditions. Best in the world indeed.

I even won a trophy against several Porsche racing guys and mostly other Porsche owners, so it goes to show that the car can be a thoroughbred in the right hands (though I think it was a fluke since all I did was follow instructions to get the best times).

Then I test-drove a Carrera on the road and found it was a very much harder ride, even than my Vanquish. Since I want a little comfort, I decided against buying it, sold the Vanq a little later and bought the CGT.

The difference is night and day - not only in ride comfort, but everything else. The cabin is pure opulence compared to the rather stark Porsche 'tool' style dashboard and accessories. Quality is on the plus side of luxury, rather than just merely being well made. I'm a sucker for rich dark walnut wood and supple leather, and the CGT tops the world for this kind of achievement.

On the other side, most Porsches look great, I like their distinctive lines and aggressive stance on the road. In black, they are to die for. But we are mostly IN our cars, not outside them when we're driving. Being IN the Bentley is a better driving experience for me.

Good luck with your search!

Don't think your License will be safe in a CGT Matt, I got busted for street racing in mine against a 996TT. You can be travelling much faster than you think in one of these.
I went from my first lambo to my first CGT and from my first 997TT to my second CGT Mansory and many others inbetween. Super luxurious but a bit of a tank compared to true sportscars.

I agree with ksbenz. I went from a 997S to my GT and they are completely different cars. The 997 is a lighter and more fun car overall. It's smaller as well and you really feel the weight difference between the two. The Bentley is just a massive beast. The car piles on speed very quickly and as ksbenz mentioned, you sometimes don't realize your going that fast. Coming from a bunch of sports cars, I found it to be a little soft at times, so I put an exhaust and lowered the car and it's been a fun ride. It is very heavy though. I get bored of cars very quickly and have had this one over a year. I can't find a reason to get rid of it. One of the best cars overall that I've ever owned.

Matt, years ago i was like you... yet lost my license a few times(!). Don't worry as there is a known cure. Join the SCCA and start off in a Miata or some other momentum car and learn racecraft/car control. Another option is High Performance Driver Education (HPDE) days at a road course racetrack. Perhaps eventually you'll go to a Formula car as i did, and no street car can come close to a full Formula open wheel full aero race car. Pulling 3+ Gs in the turns, stunning acceleration and phenomenal braking...

After a few years of racing, public roadways bored me and i knew they were unsafe because of no flagging staff, kids, animals, obviously clueless drivers texting/etc... The sad thing is that i always loved roller coasters, now they just bore me.

Am just sayin'... and one of my websites is www.EnjoyTheTrack.com and you can compare a basic Ferrari to the Formula car via the videos to see what i mean as per car capability differences.

As for the CGT, agree with others she is a heavy car, yet truly a great drive for the public roads and i see no reason to go elsewhere as the CGT is great sun, rain, and even in the deep New England mountain snow/ice. From 100+F days at the track to -20F with snow here, the CGT is so very capable, smooth feeling with good handling, and does have plenty of power to pass slower cars as needed

Thanks Steven

I know exactly what you mean as far as the race track goes. I'm actually debating heavily over signing a Star mazda contract with a team right now. Unfortunately at that level of racing drivers are still mostly paying to race. I have lots of track experience and most of my tickets have just been silly speeding tickets going 10 miles over but all those points add up.

Keith thanks for the advice and I know you are right because I believe I saw you take a Super sport across a bridge one early saturday morning filling my mirrors up as I was approaching airplane take off speeds. How we did not all end up going to jail that day I'm not sure.

i've actually gotten a range rover sport since I started this thread and drive it a lot. For know the CGT will be a car for another time, but I'm pretty sure I will own one in the future.

Nice! If you buy the ride, when you visit WGI or LRP would greatly enjoy meeting you.

Do you get space on the car/driving suit to place personal sponsor logos to help offset your expenses? And if so, let me know as was able to get 8 sponsors during my Formula days and will try to help as i can.

Yes indeed, my lawyer informed me of such time/points situation during my most recent court date (knocking on wood as that was about three years ago).

Look forward to having you join the club! The Bentley CGT at first will indeed feel heavy and braking all that weight is what it is, yet with proper driving technique you really can hustle the car around the twisties more than i felt one could. Of course for normal daily driving the CGT has so much going for it that, like others here are saying, she is a far longer keeper than other cars (which always come and go in the garage in short order).
