Harvey and the 50 year old promise
From the reunion: I have good news and I have bad news.
I just have to share this page from my reunion. One of my friends, Ed, after seeing me talk to another classmate, Gene, let me know that Gene didn't like him. This is because that Gene thinks Ed is a 'Socialist'. Later that day I overheard Gene talking about Ed. When I saw Ed later I told him, from what I overheard, that there was good news and bad news about his relationship to Gene. The good news is that Gene doesn't think Ed is a 'Socialist'. The bad news is that Gene thinks Ed is a 'Communist'.
Since I have retired as a CPA, I have entertained the notion of starting a new vocation from to time. Ever since I gave Debbie, my wife, a rescue cat for her birthday I discovered that cats are peculiar in several ways. These experiences and how I have confronted them, has lead me to believe that I can provide a service to others regarding same.
One of the cat's nasty habits was to attack my feet when I was asleep in bed. It goes without saying that, before I got her to stop, I would avoid getting an erection at all costs. There were other problems with this cat, Tia, would from time to time spit on the carpet, not on the tile, but always on the carpet. It took a great deal of time to get her to stop that habit.
This notion probably won't go anywhere because, at least in Texas, there doesn't seem to be any demand for my services. One of my friends suggested that I may need to relocate to California or Tennessee where there are an abundance of crazy cats.

Depending on how the show pans out and those boys are willing to work with me, mid November is the plan. I need the motor work. I can do it out here. But we are not sure about the dyno tuning. No one out here has ever tuned a Bentley to those parameters before and I don't want them blowing or melting anything. Lord knows, I went through one bad tuning already. I have seen so many JDM style street cars tuned with the wrong parameters and motors can get very expensive.

My cat only pisses on my belongings and not my fiancé. She was blind in one eye when I rescued her as a kitten. Something about my fish tank water that healed her blind eye. She drinks only from my fish tanks. But to get attention she will come and bite my toes. Our yorkie and her are best friends. They wrestle and chased each other around the condo all day. I had a pitbull and the cat and her used to play together all the time. Strange when they are the only ones home and they become buddies.
Plenty of crazy felines out here, this includes women also. You can make a bundle!

I've thought often - and now have to say - what an interesting bunch of people you all are. In all my wildest days (maybe not as wild as Steven's
) did I think that a group of Bentley owners would gel so well together considering the disparate occupations and experiences we all have. While it's true that interesting cars have interesting owners, I've never been on a forum that truly reflects it like this one. And in a way it's been a tipping point in my thinking as I listen to all your amazing experiences, because I realize I've been happily sitting in a muddy rut for a while now. It's time to get going again, so thanks for the kickstart.

While it may sound strange to many, owning something like a Bentley can be life transforming. I had been trying to retire since we sold our company in year 2000. After the sale I worked even harder than before in order to score again. That lead to a heart attack and 2 stints. So now I am on medication. I hurt my arm (rotator cuff tear) and got therapy without results. When you are old and hurt, you tend to gain weight, which I did. No drugs, but plenty of Dewars and Beefeater. I kept myself tied to the computer watching AAPL (Apple stock) go up and down (thankfully mostly up). I felt that my sense of humor was waning. So here I was, having achieved the position that I sought so fiercely, I became like the dog that caught the Cadillac, I didn’t know what to do with it.
AAPL shot up like a weed and after many twists and turns I decided to get a Bentley. Although AAPL had a profound influence on my getting the Bentley, this forum had just as much, if not more, influence. And to this day, this forum, has made life more pleasurable. I grew to love driving the Bentley around and what was more important, my wife loves it as well. Driving the Bentley around got a lot of attention and I love attention. I became more social. Because I liked showing her off, I took an interest in keeping her washed, polished and waxed. And like many of my endeavors I went overboard and experimented with various methods and pieces of equipment. This helped me get away from the computer. The slight amount of exercise actually helped my arm. Since I was out of shape and caring for her in the Texas heat can be exhausting, I investigated exercise equipment and bought a WaterRower (which is excellent). Weight has gone from 190’s to 160’s. Because I had more things to occupy my time, I tackled the alcohol situation and have reduced it to the extent that I can enjoy it and not go overboard (as often). I have joined the Rolls Royce Owners Club (Bentleys qualify) and will be going to a seminar in Austin on Friday. This is another activity that I would not have engaged in if I had not gotten the Bentley. BTW - the RROC national meeting is going to be in San Antonio (pretty central in the US) next year - April 8th thru the 13th.
A few days ago, EnjoyTheMusic, posted a link to a song. The first line of the song was something like “I hope you don’t lose your sense of wonder”. To me the Bentley is a constant source of wonder, from the car itself, to caring for her, to family, to friends, etc. and certainly this forum. And that constant source of wonder just might be the meaning of life.

An interesting story and some wise words to absorb!
