Thoughts on a week of 2012 CGT ownership
Tomorrow I will have had my Mulliner CGT for a week, so here's some random thoughts about it, and some comments compared to my 2006:
- It is so quiet at cruise I can hear the Breitling center clock click over.
- The 21's are bumpier than the old model's 19", but the way the new suspension treats the road means that the difference is not that great at city speeds. At highway cruise there's no difference at all.
- Cornering and turning are vastly improved. That's not an understatement, the feel is light and nimble. Just reading about it doesn't give the true impression of the changes they made - it's no longer an understeering weight round corners.
- Don't like the open cupholder in the center console. It looks unfinished, like they forgot to put a cover over it. I may opt for the dismountable hold-all which has a lid and the Bentley logo.
- Passing power: smokin'!
- Eye candy: At the lights I stopped by a small bus filled with 8-12 year-old boys on a school trip...there were a lot of shouting, grinning and thumbs up signals at me. Every second pedestrian at crossings looked at it. Every car driver looked at it. And this in a town where these kinds of cars are reasonably common. It oozes class and sporty style.
- No lurching on a hill start from the electronic handbrake. The unlock is seamless.
- The active cruise control is better than the LS600HL I used to have, and that was the ultimate. This is better, more accurate and smoother. It will even slow the car to within walking pace of a full stop when the car ahead stops. Luckily I had the brake covered when I first tried this, as the manual says it will take it to a halt. Nope.
- When I had both cars side by side in garage, the new shape bonnet is an inch or two higher. Doesn't sound like much, but it makes the car appear bigger at the front than the older model.
- Did I mention quiet? There's no constant drone from the exhaust like the old model. I like this new exhaust sound better too under acceleration. Getting almost Aston Martin-like.
- All the new tech is there... bluetooth and reversing camera (how I wanted these in the old one), and touch screen. Big step up.
- Quality. There's no real words to describe the quality of both old and new Bentley GTs. They have an exquisite refinement in all the interior work that simply is not available anywhere else and the new model has taken that further.
- Paddles are set a little high. I drive at a quarter to three position on the wheel, and have to lift my fingers up a little to reach them.
What else can I say... it is by far the best driving and show car I've ever driven or owned. Perfection in a box!

Gr and Ken, you guys are both blessed. Wider traction, more tech, improve handling with stiffer sway bays front and rear. Faster shifting tranny,Naim stereo options, cool headlights. With new cars, I am kinda of a wuss on driving the cramp out of them
Loved your comments, they're all about speed and handling. It's the complete opposite for me - I look for style, quality and and comfort. We're all lucky that the B gives us this in one package!

Not only the bond we share as Bentley owners but as friends as well. Merry Christmas.
Ken I am very glad to see you satisfied. I respect that you and i may be quite different and appreciate the same car from different angles. Maybe I will grow up someday and become a fine gentleman like you.
In the mean time i will have to play the part of the rebel hooligan as we can't all be upper crust. You all need a bottom dweller like me to keep the club in balance.

I thought that is what WedgeDuck and I were doing. Sure is getting crowded down here.

Actually GR you have new car and most of us have old worn out rags, you and Ken are the Lords of the Air.
I can only admire you from sub-terra.
It sure is getting crowded down here! You know GR can't touch his vehicle cause he is under warranty
Damm warranties! I am waiting for my Audi to get off warranty so that I can upgrade my performance. Has anyone know if Steven took his ride in the snow yet?. It starting to snow pretty decent in the local mountains here already. Oh GR, once my vehicle is done, I think about 3 more weeks, you need to take a test drive, then we can decide if we should race.
Dont want to take advantage of anyone.
Just had my carbon fiber race seats ordered. Had to have a little bit of luxury to it, so they weigh 30lbs each and they look sexy with silver cross stitching, padded just enough, leather of course. And I do want a 2012 when the price drops a tad bit next year, then me and Jayson will wind up doing something really crazy to the damm thing.

I don't believe it for a second, my friend. There's more to you than you're letting on.
Funnily too, my old Range Rover is parked outside in the driveway. I was stuck in town this morning while getting new tires for my Merc, left it there for the day and the dealership offered me a car to get home. Turned out to be ol' faithful off the lot they thought I'd like to buy back. We had a big laugh about that.
