What do you think the difference was that his method didn't work?

that chrome peice that he shows that you have to split open and he said pry it open in the middle, did not work for me. it just bent the piece and did not remove it from the shell. i got mine off by pulling it off. i found it impossible to remove by prying it open like he stated.

Is it accurate that the key cut is irrelevant? If relevant, how easy is it to swap blade from old to new?

easy to swap blade, just screwed on. for some reason my new blade was like just catching very slightly on the housing when I went to close it, I just smoothed it down with some sand paper and it closed perfectly.

I had 2 working keys, I used my most damaged beat up key to swap with this, take your time.

The 05 I just bought came with only one key. What's process or procedure to get a second key made, whether fully functional our merely valet. I'd actually prefer the second to be valet.

I followed REDNOSEGT and the VWVortex topic and was able to open the key to fix an unresponsive button.

Here are the steps:

1. Flip open the key.
2. Take off the chrome piece on the key folding side.
3. Remove the top piece (the bentley logo side) to reveal the battery.
4. Use a tiny flathead screw driver to pry open the other chrome piece
5. Remove the 3 screws
6. Done

you need to buy another key, bring all the keys in to the dealer or somebody with a scanner able to re-do the keys and have them all re-programmed. when i asked the dealer they stated the needed all the keys to flash all of them.

I never valet my car, if I had one key I would definitely make a 2nd full function key for backup.

Im working on the swap as we speak
The chrome pieces were not the hardest for me... took about 10 mins to figure it all out

BUT - how the heck do you get the Bentley logo off of the old key to access the Philips screw that REDNOSEGT mentioned lied underneath?! Ive tried everything and cant figure it out. Help!

Lilo.

Is the second chrome side glued on? I have managed to get the battery out of my new style key, along with the chrome side where the key blade sits, but the other side seems stuck fast.
Any help would be appreciated.

Regards. Les.
