I grabbed the nearest Bentley key from the pile in my key bowl and headed out across town. At my destination, as I went to open the boot to load my purchase, it wouldn't open.

So I went to the driver's door and that switch wouldn't work either. Standing wondering what to do - and even if the car would start again - I looked at the key and saw the writing: Valet Key.

So I had to get some cardboard from the store to protect my back seat, and drove gingerly home, hoping a sudden braking wouldn't send the item into my seat back.

I have since put that key along with the spare into a sealed envelope. Lesson learned!

 

I just leave mine in the ashtray permanently!
