A question about Brakes

I have noticed my 08 GT Speed has very good brakes at normal speeds especially round town or slowing down normally.
However I took the GT for a more "Spirited" drive today. Now I come from Nation GPA motorsport and do like to brake hard before a very tight curve, settle the car and drive hard out the apex. So I took the car to the track for a bit of a blast and to my shock and horror I found the braking system to work in 2 stages.

So......

Short straight(130 mph) into a tight right which requires very hard braking to reduce speed to 50 . So I press the peddle and Yes the GT slows but no where near fast enough so I press the peddle much harder than I originally thought I had to, to find there is another part to the brakes where they come on extremely hard.

Is this normal, they don't seem to come on progressively.
(My 911 would just keep braking harder and harder the more you applied the brakes until the ABS kicked in.)

Is this some thing you have to get used to?
