Track Day Insurance

Gents,

We are having a private event at the Auto Club Speedway in 2 weeks. We will be going through training, classes, etc before going solo on the track. Does anyone know of an Insurance company that offers track day insurance? I have heard of a couple but doesn't make sense to pay $5,000 for a Lloyd's of London policy if I will only use it once a year. Any help would be great and I will share the pictures once the event is completed!

It is very expensive as you know. My rule of thumb has always been to never track a car unless you are willing to push it off a high ledge and walk away without care. The moment it is on the track, consider the car 100% expendable. What really matters is that you are ok, so get a proper racing suit, gloves, socks, shoes, HANS, etc.

The car can easily be replaced, you can't.

I really appreciate the insight...I have been looking into a couple of companies and if you track the car more than 5 times a year it makes a little more sense...no matter what I agree the safety is the most important thing. Thanks again.

I just attended a track day last Sunday and got insurance from here:

http://www.locktonmotorsports.com/

This time around I rented a track car and the insurance cost was $210 per day for a 2004 Nissan 350Z. The cost for a Bentley would probably exceed $1K per day.

I agree with enjoythemusic as far as considering the car expendable if you are tracking it, and it is true - you always have to ready for the worst case scenario. Having said that, driving at 7/10th of your ability and staying away from idiots that drive at 15/10th of theirs will keep you and your car safe in most situations.

I think that buying things like a HANS device, a suit, etc. is probably overkill if you are only going to do a couple of track days a year. Do a few events and see if this is something you enjoy before you spend thousands of dollars on equipment.

You can call the track and get a referral for one day track day insurance. Also, you don't really need more than a good helmet. I recently did the AMG track day at Fontana. It was a fast, safe and a blast.

If you're not wearing a proper driving suit, please wear all cotton long sleeve shirt/long pants. No synthetic or 'plastic' fabrics. This has to do with flammability.

Wow I had no idea that it was so expensive to track a car. Looks like I'll just have to keep "street racing". What's the going rate on a speeding ticket of doing 150 in a 55mph zone?

Tracking "a car" is not expensive. Tracking a Bentley is.

Ok thanks but since mine is a soft top I have been told that I can NOT track the car at the place i called. As far as track cars goes I would not expect the big ole girl to be the doll of the day on the course. I would like to see what she is capable of however in a controlled environment.

The company that I use for all my track events (Hooked On Driving) allows convertibles as long as they have automatic pop-up roll bars that get activated in the event of a rollover. I have no idea if GTCs have those. If they do, you should be good to go. If you want to see what our cars are capable of, look for a track day at some sort of a NASCAR speedway or any other track that has less turns and more straight lines. Between 5K Lbs weight, zero negative camber and street tires, our cars do not like the corners much. However, I was able to hit 170 Mph on a straight way at Pocono Raceway.

ek1, sounds like a blast. I thought the GCT did have some pop up roll over protection but not sure??

DrD, the GTC does not pass the 'broomstick' test. We can't easily put up and down the rear emergency rollbar (to the best of my knowledge). Perhaps Bentley Tech knows how we can engage and disengage it?

Isn't automatically deployed in a detected rollover? The track I looked into said they required a fixed roll bar.

Automatic deployment does not count at the track. It may be a judgment call from the track/event staff concerning if you have the rear seat rollbars locked in their upright position as to if this constitutes a 'fixed' rollbar. The rules are there for good reasons my friend and have lost a few Internet friends with very good driving experience at the track during HPDE events
