Rear Roof Console / Headliner Loose - Help Fixing?
Rear Roof Console / Headliner Loose - Help Fixing?
Hi all
I think i may have found the source of a squeaking noise i was hearing in the back on my new to my 2005 CGT. Had a quick look just now and the rear roof console is very loose and the headlining feels a little flexible behind the console towards the rear window, assuming that's not meant to be like that can anybody give me some guidance to putting it right please?
I guess i will go in where the light etc is on the console but will that reveal screws or something that will fix this back up (hoping this is the quick fix solution) or is it a whole lot harder than this?
Finally, any idea why this would happen, is it possible over time or signs that somebody has been in the roof lining and not put it back properly? The console doesn't seem securely fitted like the front one but not sure how hard and tight the roof lining should be?
Thanks in advance
Carl

Tried to remove but the lamp cover isnt as per the diagram and trying to pry the cover off that mine has resulted in marking it.
Anyone have this same cover and has taken it off before?

Update:
I am told it is the same but i cant get the lamp cover off to access the microphones to pop them out, anyone done it, if so what did you use?
I used a mini flat head screw driver and all i could do was damage the chrome effect surround on the lamp cover?

My mistake, i was trying to go between bezel and wood rather than bezel and plastic cover. I got it off easily but then found the torx screws dont actually tighten it up really, just connect the console to the roof.
All rather poor fitment, either by somebody who has previously removed it or from the outset.

Just to check, is the gap shown in the attached picture, which measure a good 5mm and can be closed up so it all fits snug using light finger pressure, meant to be there or is this poorly fitting at the moment?

I just went and checked my rear roof console. Unlike yours, mine is snug up against the headliner and can't be moved by pushing on it. I'll send you a pic of mine to your private email.
Has anyone managed to resolve this?
I have the same “gap” issue as seen in the photo posted above. I initially thought the screws needed tightening up but as the OP states the torx’s (above the microphones) do not tighten up to fix this issue.
What I did discover however is that the black plastic frame which sits above this console unit into which the screws tighten is also separately fixed to the boarding which is attached to the roof.
In mine the actual plastic frame had detached from the roof boarding. It’s a real soft wood so once the screws come out they won’t hold if you screw then in the same place. Instead what I did was screw them in new locations so that they now have a good anchor into the roof board. I also used some strong tape as a secondary measure to fix the frame in place so this should prevent the screws from coming loose.
Anyhow, to cut a long story short even after doing this and putting everything back, I’ve still got a gap and I don’t understand how that gap is still there. As far as I could tell there’s no way for me to secure the frame any better than what I did.
I might take it down again and have another look but if anyone has figured this out let me know.
