CD Nav Swap To DVD? Is it easy swap?

Hi all

Sorry if this is a repetitive question but can the CD based Nav changer from my 2005 be changed by simple plug and play to a DVD based unit without any problems? If so, can VAG based units work too, they look the same?

Thanks

Carl

Carl, never heard of anyone doing that, so not sure if it is plug and play. Perhaps ask the dealer. Maybe Bentley Tech knows?

HI Carlosc4s.

I don't know the answer for your question but it might not make sense to try to improve the stock system since it is so old. You might be better off to have an iPad with 3G/4G connection or tether wifi from your smartphone.

You know i have thought about this and all the infotainment receives is a video signal on a fibre optic cable,it obviously has other connections but it may well work, not sure how much you can get a dvd for,it would be nice if you knew someone and could slave a unit in before purchasing.

Is plugging in a DVD unit likely to cause any problems if i need to revert back or will it just work, or not work?

Any idea of the VW / Audi units will be worth a short, the unit looks identical?

Agreed, it *may* work as the head unit is only pulled the digital info data from the disc, all video/processing is handled by the head unit itself. Should cause no damage. Just am not use if the computer needs a different hardware 'driver' to operate the DVD unit versus the stock CD. Still, worth a try if you can test it for free just to see.

DVD discs are cheap, just use the 2013 BMW 2-DVD set as I do here, works great and far better than 8 to 10 CDs.

Thought I should update this, spoken with a specialist, no point just swapping out the CD unit to the later DVD unit.

I'm told whilst the screen on the 04 - 06 looks the same as the 07 - 09, the functionality and control module associated are different and the DVD is not compatible with the old screen.

What a bummer.

I do however have a specialist who is working on something and he will get back to me. Let's see how it goes.

I want the stock look and fell and functionality with updated nav which you can actually search post codes/zip codes. - Like in the video I posted above.
