Bentley Floating Center Caps

How do you remove the outer silver part from the center black section to clean inside the front transparent section? Tried removing by turning counterclockwise without results. Thx.

Hi Steven.

On mine, I remove the black centre part, then use the allen key that comes with the wheel removal tool kit to unscrew two allen bolts that hold the outer part to the wheel.
Simple.

Hope that helps.

Les.

Thanks Les. Have a feeling my question may have been phrased incorrectly. Better still if I posted a pic or two. Basically, separate and remove the outer silver (marked partially in red) from the center piece. This would open up the part's assembly so I can clean the transparent 'face' that the 'B' logo shows through.

gamocles is infamous around these parts
I realize that this is 6 years old, but have had the problem with my floating B center caps for a bit. There is dirt inside, and they do not all spin anymore. Very reluctant to take them apart, as there are 8 tabs holding them together, and I assume they have to be well sealed/balanced to operate properly. Does anyone have a step by step to clean/repair the floating B caps?

I just purchased floating B caps for mine, and I was actually pondering the same thing just earlier today.

I haven't installed mine yet, I will do so in the spring, but I imagine that they're very sensitive to dirt / particles getting into the mechanics, which I'm sure is quite common as it can't be THAT well sealed? Compressed air and some sort of spray lubricant?

Finally worked up the courage to attempt to separate the tabs on the back of the cap and open it up. The 8 tabs from the earlier picture are just shiny plastic, brittle and break fairly easily. I managed the get the silver trim apart and only break one of them (good for me as I am somewhat of a bull in a china shop). Unfortunately, that doesn't give you access to the dirty clear plastic, as that is still attached to the main part. There are no visible fasteners to remove it, it appears to just be glued. It actually looks sealed, because I couldn't find any holes or leaks in it to attempt to pry it open. I'm thinking the dirt in there just might be fine shavings from the moving parts in there lightly scraping or something. I have never seen any water or moisture in the cap, so I think it is still sealed.
I am just going to put it back on and consider replacing them if it ever bothers me enough to spend $700-900 on a new set.
Mission = Failed!

Thanks for the update!

But noooo, don't spend that amount on a new set! I paid like 150 bucks for mine, brand new (but without the gift box). Check out this seller on eBay, he usually has them for sale. (And many other neat items..)
