Quick Question

Hello,
I have my car in for simple service. During this time a fault light came on. CEL. In checking the code I was told it was a fan failure. I have not been able to see the fault code itself. This is only what I am being told from the Dealership. I should note I have a 2005 GT with ~18,500 miles on it. Also, it is really hot here in Las Vegas ~110 degrees today.

At any rate they cleared the code and the fault came back. Now I am being told it will be ~$5500 to fix. ~$3200 for the supposed part and the rest is labor. For the life of me I cannot make sense of this regarding a fan failure. I will try and get more info tomorrow, and an actual printed quote, but confusion and stress has led me to pose this to those that may know.

Any thoughts?

Much appreciated.

Hmmm, never seen that failure on a Bentley board. Is your car overheating?

That's part of my confusion here. I drove ~45mins to dealer in 108 degree weather in slow traffic. Car was perfect. No it isn't overheating at all. The needle didn't move any higher then usual.

Hmm, sounds like a sensor failure perhaps. There are so many sensors and computers on these cars... and yes an engine out service can get very $$$$. Wonder what board member Bentleytech will say. As for parts costs, my last engine out a few months back at the dealer were 35% (or more) higher than other places to get the exact same parts online.

Thanks Steven for the input. I should get the fault code today then at least I will have more info. Also, I am looking to get a second opinion from a high line service center here apart from the lone dealership.

Ok, I think I am closing this thread. What I have now been told is the aux radiator fans are failing. They brought the cost down to $3K. This appears to be much more in line with making sense. Moving on..

Thanks
