The standard metal rotors are easy to cook. Very easy.

Yes. Any highly spirited driving with repeated hard braking events often will do it. Give me the keys to your car and 10 minutes.

I have driven for 10 minutes with some spirit do I have cooked brakes? Who here has cooked the brakes on their car? In the video I did not see driving that I thought would have damaged the brakes.

Odds are you have not cooked your brakes. You'd know it if you did. The intense smell and extreme heat is a giveaway, plus brake fade of course. Give me your car and 10 minutes and i'll show you what I mean

No no, I'd NEVER cook brakes on purpose EXCEPT if it is your car and you want to truly understand... and there is plenty of tarmac and conditions/safety are fine. In fact the opposite is true as I tend to brake less, carry more speed into the corner and use an interesting technique until apex and then shoot out the turn with 'extra' momentum all while keeping the car balanced and suspension not being 'overly aggressively' worked during transitions. Knowing the very limit of tire/mechanical/aero grip is key of course and how much is aero and how much is mechanical at a given speed as said speed varies as does mechanical versus aero grip. Am actually pretty 'gentle-ish' on brakes in real life / at the track.

It's all 'basic' math really once you factor in all the variables.

Hope this makes sense.

Listen to Steven back pedal. He just wants to cook my brakes not any one else's.

Please define "cooked" brakes. I have smelled hot brakes but the performance still seems to be as it always was. I expect the guys in the video above use the term very loosely.

Steven,
Yes, it makes sense, air pressure against mechanical resistance/strength and centrifugal force is something I'm familiar with as a pilot.

by ''aero grip'' you mean the force ''pushing'' the car down or ''lifting'' it up?

I guess that, at normal cornering speed on an open road, these forces are negligible... whether the ratio of the centrifugal/centripetal forces generated by the speed/weight of the car against the tyres grip is a major issue.

on race cars the story is different since aerodynamics is a major factor ....

on the video I can't see any reason why the brakes should be ''cooked''...My mother in Law drives faster than this guy!

""Being able to write about cars is one of those dream jobs that you always want, but never think will actually come true. Like being a rockstar, marrying a supermodel, or slapping everyone at the Republican National Convention."""

I'd be surprise to see how many people who can afford those cars are conservative... As oppose to blog editors who mooch rides...

If we own a dream car that is better than just riding around in a few. Slapping the Republican Convention??? I hope the democrats get worse. Buy a FS proves you are in no way conservative.
