GTC Black flecks coming through headliner
GTC Black flecks coming through headliner
Hello all! I'm a new owner of a 2008 GTC. I've had an issue with the convertible top since I purchased it. There are these black flecks that are coming through the headliner and it makes the convertible top look dirty every time I operate it. The crummy dealer where I bought the car ensured me there was nothing wrong with the top and it just needed to be cleaned. Well I took it over to an independent auto top place in my town and they say that the foam insulation pad behind the headliner has deteriorated and the whole headliner needs to be replaced. The problem is that the company they use for convertible tops (GAHH) does not make a headliner for a Bentley GTC. They told me if I could locate a headliner replacement, they would install it for $300. I think that's a fair price, but I have no idea where to buy a replacement headliner. Any ideas outside of a Bentley stealership (2.5 hrs drive away)?
Also, is there a way to just replace the foam that is deteriorating and keep the existing leather? Maybe the shop I'm going to just doesn't have the expertise for it. Anyone else dealt with this problem on the GTCs?
Thanks I'll be posting pictures of her on the photo thread!

Hello,
I do not have a GTC but a GT, look at my post # 52 on my link below, is that the material you see, the grayish foam, if you look at the ground in the pictures you can see how the foam deteriorated, and how I repaired mine, but I do have to ask, how is the material coming through the leather, is it perforated ?

I guess I should've been more specific on the description because it wouldn't make sense for a GT owner. The black foam insulation behind the headliner is deteriorating similar to a dry rot. I can wipe it off the headliner and clean it up a bit, but every time I put the top down the headliner folds up and as it folds, more of the black foam crumbles all onto the outside of the headliner when it goes into stowage. When I put the top back up the headliner is filthy all over again with the black specs of disintegrating foam material.
I don't think this would happen to the same degree on a GT. The convertible top movement is what exacerbates the issue.

I posted the link to give you an idea of the repair, you can also do an Alcantara headliner if you don't want to use the leather over.

Yes I do see that in the pictures...that black stuff is what is all over mine too. The crap gets all over the outside of the headliner due to the folding up of the convertible top. I'm not going to replace it myself. I'll have an independent convertible top shop do it, but I can't find an aftermarket company that sells the replacement headliners. Does anyone know of one? I used GAHH when I had to replace the top on my Maserati and it turned out great, but they don't have a form for the GTC and couldn't recommend anyone else.
