New 2007 Continental GT owner, whining noise

It's the car that's whining, not me!
I just got the Bentley Continental. It seems to have a loud, high pitched whine, seems to be from the rear. It comes and goes, independent of the speed of the car. Any ideas?
I love this car otherwise.

Just a thought is the radio on when hearing the high pitch sound? Possible rear radio speakers issue.

Good thought, but no, the radio wasn't on. That would have been an easy fix!

With the car stationary, open the left side door, drivers in your case, then start the engine.
If the noise isn't present, press the brake pedal a few times until the vacuum pump kicks in. If that's the noise and it is loud, it could be that the pump is on the way out.
It's an easy fix and it's a VW/Audi part so no need to pay for a Bentley carton.

See if that is the noise and let us know.

I tried your suggestion, several times. I also pumped the pedal until there was no vacuum left in the booster, and then started the engine. Still no noise.

I will try it again tomorrow. The noise isn't always present, which makes it harder to find.

Thanks for your help. Any other suggestions?

That's eliminated the pump then, but, I'm stumped as to what it could be now.
Good luck tracking it down.

Check your breaks.
I had a similar problem and it was a tiny piece of rock blocked close to the rear left brake pad.

Yes, check them. I had exactly the same problem today and not for the first time. It eventually pinged it's way out after about 45 minutes.
