Continental control arms again. Logic doesn't work. Am I simple?

2009 Drivers side lower front control arm.... Mine is stamped 4E0407695. So I go on ebay, there's 30 of them. All used. So in their part descriptions, they give a fitment list.

"Genuine Audi 07-10 D3 S8 5.2L Front R Rearward Lower Control 4E0407696 R6"

So because I want new, I go to Rockauto.com with the same fitment list.

I put in the same range.... audi blah blah blah. Pull up the list.....and guess what. Different numbers .

Over and over. Different descriptions , still can't find that part.

Somebody just give me a list of what to buy before I go crazy

Hi Philberticus,
log on to Flying Spares and they have all the suspension and steering arms listed. Great company to deal with by the way.
Hope that helps.

Not sure if all parts are identical to Audi Phaeton but I wouldn't be surprised. Flying Spares also list non OEM parts as replacements which, by looking briefly, seem to be about half Bentley prices. Give them a call, have a chat. The guys there know their stuff and always very helpful. I have no affiliation to the company but, as I said earlier, they are first rate.

Ok Gents, I figured out my crap and have purchased and installed my control arms.
I got 2006 Phaeton v12 control arms at rock auto.com, paid $754.29 for all of them and couldnt be happier. Well, except for a shock fault light.
Thanks for all the help.

Congratulations. The whole cross reference deal is a bit of a pain not exactly straightforward. Very gratifying, not only fixing the car, saving money but solving a mechanical riddle.

these should interchange with my 04 Conti GT as well right? I’m in the process of buying all control arms for the first time and don’t know if there was a difference between the years.

Did you replace the control arms because you needed new ball joints and didn't want to just replace the bushings?

From what I can understand the bushings are a common problem. Perhaps the ball joints fail as well? But not clear why the control arms themselves would need replaced. Please fill me in.

Did you ever get the info you were looking for? I have an 06 and this cross referencing stuff just gave me a headache. I’m also looking for both cv axels.

everything was pretty loose on mine, I understand that the bushings can be swapped. But I think replacing the ball joint is a fairly involved process that I probably could not do at home even with a press. Maybe I just don't understand it completely. Pretty much everything on mine was tired, the ball joints were quite bad
