Steering noise.

Hello all,
so I was making a right turn and hear an noise that's hard to explain but I'll try to do my best. It's coming from inside the car, around the brake pedal area I'm thinking where the steering column goes into the engine bay. It's like a whining/creeping noise.
So I got out the car to go into a store and had the wheel turned a little to the right and hear a ticking noise and saw the front left go down a few inches. Got back into the car and started for a few, straightened the wheel up and cut the car off to see if it would do it again but it didn't. I just want to know if anyone e else experience this. The nearest Bentley shop is over an hour and a half away so I'm just trying to get my head together on what I'm might be in store for.
Thanks in advance.

Edit: Upon looking at it more and rocking the car while in park, I think my front left strut is going bad.
