window wiper problem.

hi to all...got a 2005 conti gt 64000 miles and a full history and recently purchased privately....had a few niggly little problems with her which i have sorted through all except the window wiper issue i have..

i went to visit a friend recently and on the way down it started to rain quite heavily and my drivers window wiper ceased to wipe.
pulled over had a coffee and and had a look at the issue but couldnt see much as it was getting dark and the wiper mechanism is enclosed.,

it stopped raining so finished my journey as i was quite near and decided to look at it next day at my friends house.
we duly lifted the plastic cover off next morning and found that the metal rod that pushes the arm back and forth had popped off , i popped it on but it was quite worn and i felt would not last long so we temporarily put a clip on from the local halfords store that is made for this job as its quite a common problem on lots of cars as the joints wear..

its still on now and doing the job okish, but there is judder in the wiper when running so need to do a better repair on the joint.
its a basic joint and i have looked for a replacement arm but they only seem available as a complete mechanism from flying spares , and it seems a hell of a waste to replace the whol;e lot for the sake of a 20 bar, so wondering if any one else has had the issue or new if there was an audi vw part the same that i could just buy the bar or knuckle joint? the problem i have is there are lots of different size bars and joints of different sizes too..

any one been down this route before? based in midlands uk
