Question window problem/latch problem?

Hi everybody I'm having a little issue with my car every time i open the passenger side door the window will go down a bit like it should but when i let go of the door handle it goes up when the door is open. So wondering if it needs a new latch but heres where I'm stuck if i open and close the door it eventually goes up and stays up and heres the most annoying part when I'm driving and lets say i hit a little bump or crack on the road it will go down or up depending on what position its at for example if its up and i hit a bump on the road the window will go down thinking the door is open and then the door lights come on and stays on till i hit another bump and hoping it go up so i don't no if i need a new latch or microswitch or if something is loose in the door thats causing it to go up and down. So I'm wondering if it was the latch or microswitch would the window still go up and down like i does for me ? or would the window be completely dead as in when the the door is open the window would stay up and wouldn't move at all? i know there a lot of threads about this but i was just wondering if theres nothing wrong and its just something loose in the door before i go and take it to get it fix…..sometime when the car is on and I'm stopped at the lights the window will start acting up going up and down for no reason lol think this car is possessed

Sounds like a typical Porsche electrical gremlin. It could be as simple as something loose, or one of the components could be bad. The only way to tell is to take it apart and check the wiring and start replacing the electronic components one at a time unfortunately. IMHO, it's a bad relay, switch, or similar component, but which one it is, who knows?

It's the door latch I had similar circumstances fairly cheap and not terrible to change. But they are left/right side specific so make sure you get the right side.

How much does the part cost a mechanic said it would be $240 for just the latch (part) does that sound over priced for just the part?

as gearhead has mentioned, it is the door latch mechanism, no doubt. they are the same for 986/996.

the best advice i could give you sammy would be to familiarize yourself with a number of porsche part outlets, most notably: pelican parts / suncoast porsche / vertex / usp / and any number of others, so that when your mechanic tries to bend you over? you will at least know the cost of the soap.

This is the part you need. You can disassemble and temporarily repair the micro switch with a thin film of plastic, but in the long run you'll have to fix it anyway.

That's how it goes... It will work 50% of the time until it doesn't.

I have the exact issue. It is very annoying when I was driving back home for Thanksgiving for my 4 hour drive. Did the latch resolve your issue?

There is absolutely no mystery here - the problem is a micro-switch in the door latch assembly. The part is about $200.
