So, I thought through this a little and there will be two challenges:
1. Physical fit finish and electrical connections
2. Sync up - this is the biggie.
One these systems the security feature is tied into the ECU and Can Bus. For this system, at least first the ECU stores the last known odometer reading and must accept the new speedometer (odometer). This will involve a security level in the Kessey module. Kessey has to accept the speedometer unit. I think the odometer part can be accomplished, the Kessey part is possibly the mystery.
In VAG, the primary (or highest level) system in the Canbus hierarchy is the infotainment system. The speedometer is part of the infotainment side of the Can Bus system. Both security and system startup originates in the speedometer. In other words, the code Kessey needs to see to allow a key or push button start must sync with the speedometer unit.
Here is where the largest challenge will be Rico. I've read some that even losing the security code on an intact infotainment system could require a factory "hookup" intervention a coding not available even to dealers.
This is not to discourage, but hopefully, don't actually buy a 2012 unit until it is known the coding can be done.

Good info Sir ... Noted, Yes your right Ive looked into this for sometime & still looking into it, Ive established some issues & figuring out, its still on paper no parts are ordered as yet, a little more pen to paper & I'll post it all up for you to look at before I start ripping the dash apart ...
When I was 13 i designed a surround system but at the time there was no surround system as such, I made one for the bedroom worked a treat only thing my dad wasn't to impressed as I made holes in the wall ... Lol ... what I'm saying nothing will stop me when I have an idea, I designed a electronic dash at 19 just before Audi had one in the Quattro 2.2 injection turbo which I had at 21 what a car at the time, but it never went anywhere other than on the paper ... I need a copy of the firmware from a 2012, a friend has one car I mean I'm looking into it ... all the help is great ...

Never liked the yellow/white scheme of the gen 1 gage cluster center screen that I have. Not sure why Vag or crewe decided on not using the available colors on the panel and opted not to include a speed readout, when most of the other audi/vw of the era had that as a cycle through option. Wish I knew enough to borrow the few lines of code this would take from one of the other VAG cars.
An old friend of mine replaced his Firehawk SLP gage cluster with an android tablet running the Torque app and using bluetooth to get the gage information to the screens via a $20 bluetooth OBD II reader that sync's with the tablet. The tablet is masked by the instrument cluster, and digital gages that pefectly fill the old round gages. so looks 'stock' save the missing images when off. When on, the gages come up and he's got it paired with his phone to cycle through the speedometer screen and can have nav or other information in that circle, like the 911s, audis, etc. He's even figured out how to get the gear selector info into the center of the rpm gage/screen. Really slick setup.
I've done the same with my android based nav screen on the console. Handy to be able to run scans and such without getting out the laptop and vag-com cable. Wish ross-tech had a bluetooth version and customizable gages, graphics for the output like torque does.
You guys are pretty awesome and have a lot to offer! This could be a refreshing "add" to the Bentley forum and give it a new dimension.
Right now the site is small and sleepy. We basically have only a few active members who work diligently on simple technical repairs and issues that have known fixes and keep coming up over and over, and that's good. It helps a lot out who are at the DIY maintenance place of ownership, but no reason it can't be more than that.
Creativity is always controversial. One person will like it, another will not, but the essence of the exercise is the creative part. I love low riders. Would never own one, but as a career mechanical engineer, I am fascinated by the creativity. I drive my friends nuts, but I can spend all day talking to builders at a show.
I'm not expecting anyone's Bentley will look like these any day soon, but some of the ideas I see from some of you guys is really a good spark.
My Invite came today to the Bentley gathering at Blenheim Palace this coming Sunday. Im not part of the club I got the invite through the dealership. Now all Ive got to do is get out of this bed, Hmmmm ...
