Wing issue redux

I've read all of the commentary on the wing, but I'm at a loss. As you all may remember, I replaced my infotainment with a Ben Hur, it quit working (went blank) and I took it back to the installer, who as part of his troubleshooting, disconnected both batteries for three minutes. That didn't do anything, because the unit was internally shorted out, but later that day I noticed my wing light on. Sure enough, the wing had stopped working.

I read everything I could about re-initializing it, but it's dead, the buttons don't do anything. I tried removing the fuses (well, the shop did, since they felt bad that they might have caused the problem) and reinitializing, nothing.

I got out the VAG scanner, no fault codes on the wing, nothing.

Now what? First question is why isn't there a fault code since there is a warning light on the dash? Something, somewhere knows that the wing is not working and I suspect it's because of of the initialization process so it's computer-generated, I poked and poked around in the Ross-Tech VAG ODB program and absolutely zero on the wing.

I am thinking of taking it in to my independant shop, but I suspect they're going to have less of a clue than I do at this point (BTW, lots of shops come here to this forum for initial trouble-shooting). I hesitate to take it to the Bentley dealer, the thing works, I don't want to spend $5,000 on a brand-new one which is what suspect their go-to answer will be.

I don't need thewing, but I hate the warning light; I'm at an age that I want my equipment to be working, I remember as a teenager all the things on my various cars that I would have fixed if I'd only had the money, now that I can fix them, I want them fixed.

I'd love some advice, first question, how does the car know the wing isn't working if it didn't show up in the ODB?

BTW, this is what the Ross-Tech Wiki says (I have zero idea where the control module is that you would disconnect)

Basic Setting

Special Procedures

J223-Rear spoiler activation

Perform the following when fault code '01507-Initialization Not Successful' is present.

Key on, engine running.
  1. Press the Rear Spoiler 'up' button, the rear spoiler will now deploy, then should retract in four steps.
or
  1. Drive the vehicle greater than 25km/h for a short distance, the code should clear or can be cleared and rear spoiler operation should be normal.

Notes:

If the code clears and the spoiler functions correctly, the initialization is completed.

If the Initialization fails, you can disconnect the J223 controller for 10-15 minutes, then repeat the above. And check the rear spoiler for any mechanical concerns, such as blockage or damage.

Maybe you can just find the fuse that’s related to the module and pull it instead of the actual module.

I’m on my way home from vacation right now but I will try to find the post where I posted the locations I saw on a JohnnyHotspur post. I think I posted it in a audio thread from this yr.

Thought I'd finish the loop on this. It was a bad module caused by a short elsewhere in the electrical system. Had to replace the module (very expensive) and everything worked fine. Ross-Tech didn't show any info other than it was dead, technician had to test it.

Can't really defend repairing it, I never go more than 90 mph (that's "felony speeding" in my state, as in "go to jail maybe"), other than to test it out. Gotta admit, it's pretty cool, it goes up and stays up for a while, making you think you're driving like James Bond.

Yep...to me that’s just screams “Look at me officer, I’m going 90+!!! Catch me if you can!!” 😂
I was going to stop power to mines but it just looks good when it’s up. And you may be right about most ppl not know it’s there. Just this yr my wife and I were trailing each other and like me she’s a speed demon at times. So we’re on a stretch out here and she blew past me like I was sitting still. My ego kicked in on the fun and I hit it! Walked her real quick and got small on her. She called my phone saying a piece was coming off my car. As I slowed down and it went back in/down, she said “WTH, it disappeared!” I just laughed and explained to her what it is and what does it do. I never told her at what speed it comes up at because I already knew what she would do . From that point on she made it her mission to make it come up when she drove it. She thought it was a button to press. She even called me once mad because it wouldn’t come up for her lol. After a while I finally told her.

British, with the salt out this way, please try to make it routine to have the undercarriage sprayed out atleast once every 2 week. Not just for the salt but the loose road that comes up because of the salt and the melting snow.

Funny you just mentioned the salt thing, I just posted the very thing on one of the threads ...
I think around 90 and back down around 60/70 after I’ve been at that speed for about 30 sec to a minute. Heck no I haven’t told her about that button. She’ll have it up doing 30 or 40 on a regular street lol. She really don’t like driving my cars like that tho. Sometimes I have tell her just gone and drive it today. She knows how I am about all the cars so if something happens she rather it happen in hers.

Read somewhere else on here that you can't change the factory settings, don't know if that's true. Also read that the wing was set to 60 in Great Britain cars, then someone else said that was hooey.

I don't really care about the wing, I just can't stand the warning light on the dash.

He might be talking about the speed limit warning that you can set yourself. Shows up on the middle screen on the dash.

60 sounds about right but for some odd reason a lot of them don't work at 60 but do at 90, I'm going to have a look at this when I get back because I can't see the point of having one if it doesn't do the job when its supposed to ... I'm greedy on the onyx I have 2 ... Ha Ha.

What warning light ... ?
Mine is set to go up at 90mph, it even says so in the owners manual and works through (very limited) experimentation.

I was talking about my warning light (there is one for the wing on the speedometer) that went on when my radio shorted out, it took out the wing module and turned on the warning light. Cost me $800 to get that warning light back off...
