05 GT project

Wish me luck: My new to me base 05GT project is scheduled for delivery tomorrow afternoon and the anticipation is as Carley Simon put it well. The 05GT is an auction purchase, with the typical auction specials dysfunctions. Reportedly at the time it was put on the auction block it would start and run... the windows were left down, the front bumper skin ripped off in pieces, etc... I'll take a few pictures while it's on the trailer and such... and we'll see how it goes. I'll be doing a happy dance if I can actually drive it off the trailer. I'll get a pic of my happy dance if that works out.

Thanks Johnny for the positive vibes. I'm happy to report that I did successfully drive the vehicle off the trailer... no serious complications... "emergency start" procedure was utilized as the left battery was flat. No video to offer of my happy dance, as it was pitch-black out and pouring down rain at the time of the unload. Well that, and my happy dance likely wouldn't be much to watch even if there was video footage: "Stand in one spot and tap my toe." (as per the bass player I am).

Here's a pic from a week or so ago, before the vehicle made the trip to me, and showing what's for-now the most apparent stuff in-need of attention:

The removed headlight, wing fender, wheel well, and bumper skin were included/delivered with the vehicle. The bumper skin is "in a few pieces". The headlight housing has most the mounting ears broken off and parts rattling around inside the housing. The fender has one good scuff in the paint, but I think I can salvage it. So-far, with the first look-over, it seemingly has potential enough to warrant going forward with rehabilitation.

Yea...I think you and Johnny HotSpur May become good buddies with this build as the starting point 🤣🤣

One of the mods I would do is the upgraded L.E.D headlights since you have to remove the front end. Maybe a different front bumper. I went with the Speed bumper when I replaced mines. And remember, the grills do no come with the bumper. And they have 3 different color for certain bumpers, black, high chrome (like the hood grill) and dark chrome. I should have went with the high chrome instead of black.

Ha! It was oddly the same with mine. The car hauler got totally lost, then finally showed up at my loading dock at 11:00 pm in the pouring rain. I still took the car out and drove it around (terrible radio, that was disappointing). My third brake light stopped working immediately after, apparently water got in. But I had to drive that thing.

Welcome to the Bentley Club.

You, sir, have far bigger ***** than I do, buying a project at auction, these parts are EXPENSIVE.

I could certainly use a left headlight mounting attachment doo-dad... if anyone here might happen to have one they'd part with. I believe I now have seemingly everything else to put the vehicle together except for that doo-dad. I don't know the part number or what it's officially called, but it's a rectangle-ish block shaped piece that mounts to the bottom of the headlight assembly under the in-board headlight, as shown in this picture:

For those who may find this useful someday in the future, I've figured this out about the headlight mounting system: Although I haven't yet installed the headlight assembly, from what I can tell so-far: While the headlight assemblies are removed and installed via the front of the vehicle, it seems they're back-loaded into their final mounting position: The headlight assembly's upright top mounting tab is bolted into the back-side of the mating captive nut. I haven't yet ascertained if the headlight assembly slides onto this above pictured mounting block with the mounting block bolted in-place, or if one slides the block onto the assembly and then bolt the block in-place? I suspect I'm becoming one of the most knowledgeable Bentley Continental headlight mechanics in my local neighborhood.
