Boot won't open

Thought it was too good to be true no posts for months ha ha well I shut the boot the other day and motor pulled lid shut as normal then on the dash I saw that the car was showing the boot lid still open. I tried door switch to reopen but nothing I then tried lid button and button on key fob but no luck so I popped rear seat panel and tried the manual lever with a broom handle and still nothing. It's like the car thinks it's still open so won't operate the lock mech I've vcds scanned it and no faults shown so now I'm at a loss of what to do any ideas greatly received thanks guys

Hello @Yoghurtshotgun ,
Please explain what you mean by the "popped the rear seat panel", if you mean that you went though the rear seat pass though into the trunk, then the broomstick approach does not work on that lever as it is an electrical switch, if you have an electrical problem, the emergency release lever is behind the right side rear seat, unless you have a convertible, then the release is a 11 or 12 mm bolt head in the pass though.

Hi Johnny yea I meant went through rear panel. Sorry for my crap grammar ha ha. Anyways a bit of a result yesterday I wasn't to keen on removing rear seats so after a little pondering I came to the conclusion that the car thought boot was open but relay was thinking it was open so I sat on the boot and jumped up and down low and behold the extra weight managed to activate the microswitch and then pressing the boot release at the same time It opened and I found this

A penny had lodged in the mech somehow and broke the guide which activated the microswitch result!! All cleaned lubed and reglued and working fine
