First, I tried to sit on my trunk and hop like a bunny.
That didn't work.
Tonight, I got my gf and I both sat on the trunk and hop up and down with while pressing the trunk open. I guess this is the time where being heavier is a plus.
And we heard the trunk opening sound and popped
Those who have similar issue with trunk locked but having "trunk open" indicator light should try this method first before going with a more invasive technique.
Next stop is to repair the broken trunk cable so I can open it next time it gets stuck. Any tips if I can buy a cheap replacement? The Bentley one is several hundred $$$.
Thanks Bruce, Johnny, Iain for the help. This forum is really helpful. I hope someone else can benefit from this experience!
Before going to reach my toilet plunger, I wonder if anyone can take a look at my emergency release cable and see if it is still salvagable.
i had exactly the same issue boot lid was pushed shut on cable for charger .dash thought boot was open I tried leaning on trunk lid and nothing my pal came around that eve and he stood on a crate and put his 17st *** on the edge of the trunk lid and gently bounced up and down and it opened it was all about where he distributed his weight I would give it a go with two people as I just couldn't get it to budge .the trunk lid it solid so not much chance of denting it if you stick to the edge
Glad to hear you got it open. As with many parts, there may be a VW Phaeton or Audi part that will do the job for a lot less. If the rst of the mechanism is fine you might be able to have a replacement cable made.
Thought I'd leave this here for future continental GT owners, mine is a 2005 GT RHD:
I found myself in a similar boat, having not used the car for about 8 days, trunk refused to open with either remote, or door panel button. Removed rear seat, and even though emergency cable was fine, it still will not release the trunk. Apparently you can take a plunger to the left tail-light and then access the main battery that way, but I did not want to do that and risk a very expensive tail light.
I had once before unlocked the car using the jump connection under the bonnet, using strut tower as ground.
Tried that, but it still would not wake trunk release button up. I figured battery was too far dead.
So here's the alternative: I hooked up my Ctek for about 4 hours to the under bonnet jump connections. Lo and behold, it charged the battery just enough so that the door panel trunk release finally worked!
I then moved the Ctek to its rightful place in the trunk, hooked to the main battery directly. Happy days!
I have a 2004 CGT. I have an outdoor extension cord going into the trunk to charge the battery during covid. I left the trunk in down position but not latched.
My GF went to drive the car and didn't see the extension cord. She forced the trunk down and closed the trunk and jamming the extension cord.
Here is the situation:
1. Battery OK
2. Dashboard indicate trunk is open light
3. Remote button to open trunk - nothing
4. Driver side switch to open trunk - nothing
5. Trunk emergency latch switch on interior trunk lid - nothing
6. Emergency latch behind passenger rear seat cable seems to be broken. I see broken strands of metal wires. The latch move from left to right freely. Not sure if it was broken previously or due to this incident
I managed to cut the extension cord and use a catch pole to remove the pinched extension cord but the trunk light is still on.
I think somehow the car think the trunk is open so it won't react to any electronic open command.Any idea on how to proceed? I have the RossTech vagcom and also the dealer diagnostic tool. Any way to trick the car into thinking the trunk is closed so the electronic switch might work?[/
vcds allows cycling of the motors, I have exactly the same situation as yourself and possibly a blown fuse

had exactly the same issue, vcds will allow you to cycle the motors for the clamp and lock 👍
