Hi, I noticed today a 3-second delay in my transmission when shift into reverse also a jolt when it engaged, this was after a 30 minutes drive, but D is very smooth and engage fast in about a second or so, I did several shifts between P, R, and D, and always on R the shift was slow and rough.
I turned off the car to connect my Autel scanner and found no transmission codes at all, 10 minutes later I started the car again and shifted several times again into R and D, and the problem was gone.
Any ideas what can be the cause of this?
BTW, I got replaced a leaking hose from the front differential to the oil cooler on the driver side, the shop said they check the levels and adjusted all fluid levels as required.
This is very common on the older CGT's. The solenoids stick inside the transmission. If memory serves me correctly it was a $1500-2000 job to get that part rebuilt. It looks something like this.
Today I drove the car again, when I returned back to my home after a 20 min drive I noticed again the 3-second delay in to reverse also with a noticeable jolt, I decided to shut the engine off and immediately turn it on again, and voila, the problem is gone.
This seems to be recurrent every time I use the car.
Also, I noticed a very small bump almost imperceptible when going into a full stop between 3rd to 2nd gear shift.

I've noticed a similar issue on my '05 Continental. In my '05 VW Phaeton though (same trans) no issue and 180k+ miles. I follow the Phaeton forums and no mention of this issue on a trans shared by all V8 Phaetons.

In some Audi and VW forums I have found similar issues with some different symptoms but pretty much the same, but I have not found a clear answer to address this issue, I have no codes from the transmission, the oil level is fine, perhaps it will be the valve body, but if were the case I wonder why there are no codes, also my paddle-shifters are working perfectly fine and the misfunctioning of the paddles seems to be a symptom of a bad valve body.
Did you solve this issue with your Bentley?
If your fluid level is fine you probably have a sticky valve in the valve body. With no codes your best shot at fixing it is doing a full transmission service when the car is hot. There are very tight tolerances in between the valves and the bores they slide in. Sometimes the grit gets flushed out and sometimes it doesn't.
Update... yesterday morning before traveling outside town I disconnected both batteries in the trunk and i leave the car like that for a couple of hours, then I reconnected everything and took the car for a drive as I normally do, during my trip, I didn't notice any jolt or delay while engaging R anymore, seems to be addressed this issue but only time will tell, right now I'm out of town so I can't test my car for the moment.
Looks like disconnecting both batteries reset the parameters of the transmission, Is this possible?
