Hi there from a newbie. I have recently purchased an '04 Bentley Continental GT with a nice long 'to do' list.
First up is the rear spoiler / active aerofoil. When I got the car the spoiler warning light was illuminated, the metal tubes housing the cables were very bent out of shape (plastic clips 'popped' etc) & the motor had been unplugged (previous owner said a garage did it).
I removed the motor & found the aerofoil was difficult to move by hand, so I removed it, cleaned the mechanism, straightened the metal tubes & reassembled everything thinking the stiff mechanism had caused the motor to overload the plastic clips/metal tubes. Unfortunately that was naive of me!
With the aerofoil in the down position I pressed the up button. The motor turned in the correct direction and the spoiler raised. Unfortunately when I pressed the aerofoil down button the motor turned the same way as 'up' bending the tubes etc. I figured this out by removing the motor and watching it move as the up then down buttons were pressed.
Did I need to reset the system somehow when I assembled it? Is there a faulty position sensor in the motor? Has the aerofoil button failed? I haven't tried VCDS yet.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I had a scan of other similar posts but can't see anything with the same symptoms. My aerofoil goes up or up which is a new one on me....
Thanks for the welcome and link, I hadn't found that post when I had searched but it has exactly the answer I was looking for. It turns out the system uses current to detect the end stop position so you have to put the whole thing back together properly rather than to try and test it separately or half assembled like I did. Needless to say it worked a treat and my spoiler is back in operation.
Thank you again (and the others in the link), it saved me a huge amount of messing about!

Hi everyone, I've noticed the black gnarled plastic connectors which hold the active aerofoil runners together have worked loose (not that I've been over 95mph of course....)
Has anyone successfully fitted these clips 1C0827658 to resolve it? The dealer wasn't too sure they were right.
I took the risk, ordered the clips & they fit!
Rather than disassemble the whole mechanism to remove the old black cylindrical connectors I just unscrewed & moved them up the tube out of the way. Hopefully this means no more worrying about the aerofoil.
pic of new clips for info (I didn’t do the sealant…)
