windshield washer spray/nozzles

Having replenished the reservoir, I got some fine mist at the edges of both sides of the windshield, and after a few more tries nothing.
There looks like there's a vertically adjustable black plastic piece on both sides. Is this for the spray or to detect rain on the windshield?
The headlight washers produce adequate spray on both sides.

I hear the motor going when I try to activate the windshileld washer but no flow on either side. I never used the washer before in the 18
months I've had the car, but it seems odd that both sides of the windshield are failing. Any thoughts?

Sounds like the just might be clogged. Try taking the hoses off the nozzles and shooting some compressed air through them. Also from washing and waxing the car, the nozzles could have some build up. Is it garage kept?

Yes always garaged. No wax used. Pushed hypodermic needles into the nozzles to no avail.
Can't tell if the nozzles simply pull off. The drawings of the washer lines is such that the lines aren't easily exposed like in most cars.
Can simply pull off the nozzles to clean them?

And if I pull off the nozzles that would give me access to the hoses.

Doesn't look like the nozzles separate from the lines:

windshield washer

Turns out one of the lines leaving the fluid reservoir had degraded and the fluid never made it to the windshield or headlight nozzles.
The nozzles were fine. The line cost $150 to replace and $300 labor at the dealer. The pump was fine and the fluid just emptied into
the engine compartment and not on the garage floor making it hard to troubleshoot.
