Where do all the flood cars go?
Where do all the flood cars go?
When Hurricane Ian hit SW FL over 40,000 cars were totaled by the floodwaters. Most if not all of the insurance companies arranged for CoPart to pick them up and take them to their facility in Arcadia, FL. SW FL, particularly Naples, has a LOT of Bentleys and other high end cars. Although the adjuster told me they all get crushed, that's not true. CoPart auctions them off for whatever they can get. You can go to Copart.com and see what's available. Just for fun, I searched for my old VIN and it popped up with pics and auction info. As it turns out, it was sold at auction just a few weeks after they picked it up for a whopping $9300. I think the wheels and new tires will cover most of that. If you're looking for a project, check them out.

I searched CoPart for some Lamborghinis and Bentaygas, and the pictures were depressing!! But some vehicles looked like they were brand new, no apparent damage at all. I've heard that about flood damage, that it may look just fine to the naked eye, but the problem is now rooted deep within almost every part. Especially with salt water.
I'm guessing most of these get sold for their parts. After all, we all know that the second-hand market for Bentley parts is not exactly cheap.
There are a lot of high-end vehicles being stolen in Sweden, as well as a lot of air bag thefts. They say there are some sophisticated networks of "chop shops" in the Baltic countries as well as Romania and around there, and they are quite handy with using a few stolen/wrecked/damaged vehicles and putting together a brand new one, with a clean identity. Then they export it to someone who doesn't mind missing the original documents (or a CarFax report) to save a few bucks.

I ended up buying a 2020 Lincoln Navigator from IAA which is a dealer only auction. This Lincoln was totally submerged in saltwater from Ian and I am replacing every module ( a BUNCH of them). Surprisingly the engine got barely any water in it and none in the cylinders. The only reason I did this was because of the price ($15k for a $100k vehicle) and the fact that it is domestic to the US (Cheaper parts)
Can't imagine what the cost of parts would be on a Lambo, Ferrari, etc.

I just searched the VIN and the info came up. Maybe you need to search specific VIN'S to get that info.
Thank you, that is good to know. What year was your car? I remember seeing pictures of it, just don't remember the year

Try this site to see auction results. You don't need a VIN to see the cars and what they sold for.

Bruce,
Thank you very much, the Copart site didn't have the information easily found since the pictures don't show the VINS in detail, so I reached out to them to see about the VINS on the cars that are coming up, and they basically referred to me to get the reports they sell. This site will help a lot.
