yeah... I dont know where are you located, I am central europe - hard to find cool shop do do the job - anyone is scared to touch it, only B-dealer left or diy.
I think US folks are in much better position! There are a lot of independent shops who just deal with this moster. I may speculate, I may be wrong, but I got the impression...

The latest:

After all that has been done I still have the P2279 code- intake air leak. Is there some other kind of smoke test or other test to find out where the air is getting in? Car idles fine when pump is on but gets lumpy when off. Pump comes on EVERY time the brakes are pushed. Doesn't come on at all when throttle is given.

Can't make ANY smoke come out of anywhere. Not a wisp coming from the lower hoses.

It appears that the brake booster and turbo codes are gone so there is that but I haven't driven it yet, just run on the lift.

As an aside, Cold cranking the car idles great. 25 seconds in, something changes and it gets rough. Not terribly rough but enough to feel and see on the tach

Just tried something and got a strange reaction;

Unplugged the hose coming out of the vacuum tank (above pump) and plugged it basically taking the pump and tank out of the equation. I get the EXACT same reaction as I do when it is connected: Car idles almost perfectly but the pump comes on every time I push the brakes. Thinking that the pump isn't working correctly or has some sort of leak not allowing vacuum to build in the tank. Obviously the brake booster pressure sensor is working and telling the pump to come on when the brake is pushed thus lowering the vacuum pressure in the system.

Your thoughts?

Edited:

Just found this on E-bay for $130 shipped and bought it. At this point it's worth the shot for $130. Donor had less than 30k miles

Hello @2007Conti ,
I had asked back in my post number 26 for a better picture of the blue ***** and pump assembly to show the check valve, as your picture barely shows the connection at the top of the blue *****, I now see your comment under that unclear picture, that you see no check valve, so, did you remove it at some point ?

Please post a full picture of the area, it should look like pictured below.

Also, I tagged you in some other threads yesterday, that might help with your issue, but I am now thinking that somehow you have removed the check valve, which now creates a vacuum leak every time the vacuum pump shuts off... let's hope that is the case.

Or, the blue ***** may be leaking, have you blown air into the top of them to check for a leak ?

Johnny

Thanks Johnny and sorry I didn't get a better picture of the tank. Perhaps I just bought a $130 check valve, LOL. Wouldn't it be crazy if all of this was because of a check valve? If it is, then it's all on me.

Hello @2007Conti ,
Great talking to you again.
As discussed on the phone conversation, your check valve is is place, now let's check to be sure that it is working properly for flow only one way as discussed, along with checking the ***** and the top/tee for leaks, also as discussed, please update us all to the outcome after clearing all faults Individually, and going for a test drive.

Johnny

Well,

I really hesitate to post this because I feel that somehow it will jinx me but...

After about a 20 minute drive after installing the vacuum pump unit, I believe that the problem is fixed! No codes. No limp mode. No erratic shifting. No rough idle. I still won't believe it until I drive a few more times but I feel great about it. The "new" pump unit is so quiet, I can't even hear it. 60k fewer miles on it than the one it replaced so it has had an easier life.

This WOULD NOT have happened without the help from this forum ESPECIALLY Johnny Hotspur GT. Thanks for not giving up on me.

Still have the ride height issue and I'll start that on another thread. Should be a cake walk compared to this latest journey.

Not sure exactly what went wrong with the pump unit or associated hoses and tank. Possibly just a valve in the line or the pump itself. It was pretty noisy.

Thanks again guys,

Ron

Hello, żDid you ever find the cause of that P2279? I have same problem in my Bentley, is ridiculous how a small leak makes such engine to idle like crap, I already removed the friking engine 3 times, replaced a ton of parts, did dozens of smoke tests, and no luck, this thing simply don't want to work fine, Im thinking seriously to get rid of this car and buy a Rolls-Royce instead since is eating my patience.

Nope. Still sitting in the garage. Now it has more issues. Wishing you luck with yours and let us know if you find the fix.

żDid you ever figured out if this thing seats properly in the bank 1 turbo? Mine does not, and have been trying everyting to make it fit, it just seems to be unproperly designed... I sealed it with gasgacinch amd see no more smoke, but still, I found a leak in the brake booster and isolate that hose but problem persist.

At this point the last thing I haven't checked is the fuel pump and the charcoal canister, the canister is part of the EVAP and the fuel pump if isn't delivering at properly pressure or ammount of fuel then the mix may have a lot of air and low fuel making the ECU think it has a leak somewhere.

In the last scenario, probably the bypass you did is the culprit, I did a similar bypass relocating the N75 and the solenoids on top of the transmission, I can't imagine why this may affect, theres no logic behind that since still a closed circuit of vacuum and there are no leaks.
