how easy / how problematic was the engine out procedure (actually while power unit) in this environment - just a manual lift, outside your garage, no workshop channel (do i use right english words?)
want to say it is very optymistic picture you were successful.

I am both a qualified vehicle mechanic and a qualified aircraft engineer and it was not too difficult but was time consuming. Now I have done it once I reckon I could do it in half the time it took this time. I think I could now have it in and out in 5 days maximum now I know what the issues are.
if you are a complete mechanical novice I would say this might be a step too far as there are a lot of complicating factors…. You do need some mechanical sympathy and engineering sense.
For instance, I made some items to make my life easier- like the blanking plate for the head intakes.
it is also worth considering how you are going to support the engine whilst you lower it out of the car. Unless you are lucky, you probably won’t have the lifting eye fitted at the front of the left hand head. These used to be cheap, but Bentley have now designated them as a workshop tool and as such cost about £400 to buy. They are impossible to find used - so I made my own out of 4mm steel . In hind sight 5mm would be better.
The radiator pack on the front of the car is very heavy and awkward to remove and install and the engine and gearbox are VERY heavy and hard to move around.
if you intend to support the engine from above and drop it down I would say you need at least 18 inches to 2 feet of height above ground level.
if you want to lower the engine from below you will need this plus the height of whatever you are using to support it - which is getting into 2 post lift territory in my opinion.
If you are going to do it you should be fine if you take your time, double check everything and meticulously plan your next move to avoid damaging anything or worse still hurting yourself or someone else.
Would I do it again? Yes but I would do it on a concrete floor to save my back and knees!
what you did is massive - do you have more photos of the steps or procedure you did? can you take a photo of the supporting equipment you engineered or can you put some more detailed steps descriptions or warnings?

Hi
Can I ask what are the 2 pipes runing on top of the gearbox and what is the unit they go too?
I too will be looking at an engine out job in the next 12 months.
Did you find access to the bols that the lifting eyes bolts too easy to get at?

Hello @Frank ( Sunnyside ),
Those are the coolant circulation pipes that run to and from the circulation pump at the tail end of the transmission, that was the setup on the earlier GT's 2004-05, some 06, the 2007's and up had the relocation of the pump up to where the solenoids and vacuum lines used to be on the prior design.

Thanks Johnny.
So thats thats the main coolant pump for the whole of the engine?
Does the 08 Speed have the same set up just behind the block above the bell housing?

thank you! again amazing job in such conditions.
sorry I don’t have more photos to share.
the engine lifting bracket looks like this.
if you search the Forum I think Johnny posted some pics with measurements.
As far as the coolant pump, no, it is not the main for the whole engine, the engine has the standard water pump driven by the serpentine belt on the front, this little electric coolant pump is either for the residual heat, or the after run cooling of the turbos, or both, depending on the year and location climate wise, the majority of them have two of these extra pumps, one on the transmission, the other in the drivers side (LHD) wheel well under the headlight area, for hotter climates as I understand, a third pump is located in the cowl area at the windshield wiper motor area (LHD), there is actually a mounting bracket on my 05 for a pump, and that extra two wire plug that many were always asking "what is this plug laying here, for ?", I found a picture online one day of a GT with a pump actually mounted there, and it used that two wire plug, and of course there were the coolant hoses running to and from it, then that bracket made sense to me along with the plug.
As far as the 08 speed, it should be the same as the pictures of my 10/11 Supersports engine / transmission I posted above, that Supersports engine went into my 05 body with no issues at all as to coolant lines.

Hello @Jinxgj ,
As a fellow engine dropper without a lift, I applaud you !
It's a great feeling to accomplish this job, plus knowing exactly what you did, and that you did it right, is piece of mind.

Thanks Johnny, I remember that post now.
My opc seems a little reluctant to get them for me. I had attempted to order them 3 times now and they are always on back order then never turn up.
I think I might have to try and make some but they look to containe complicated angles and bends.

That really does mean a lot as I think it is fair to say that you are regarded as the Oracle when it comes to all things Bentley Conti GT!
