Continental gt 05 Steering rack leak

My recently acquired Continental GT has unfortunately developed a steering rack leak on the passenger side, RHD UK model. After a few dead ends a workable method of removal has been found, the engine/subframe had to be lowered 5-10mm using the mounting bolts to gain just enough clearance for the electrical connector bracket to pass the various pipes and wires in the abyss. Getting it out was a right game I can imagine putting it back is going to be as easy as pushing wet spaghetti up a cats bum!
The rack sadly is toast quite a bit of corrosion on the ram I'd imagine from the result of over enthusiastic use of a jet wash. The plastic collar the boot sits on at the outer end seems quite a poor design.
Quite a few second hand racks are available from several sources here in the UK, from some reading I've done some sources suggest 2004-2010 racks are the same has/can anyone confirm/deny this or explain the part numbering system what I've got is 3w2 422062C , 7852 985 137 , 0000253 14.10.04
Many thanks in advance Chris.

Managed to get a very good condition second hand rack from a not too far away breakers yard this afternoon, my question is the electrical sensor on the rack, what is it and what's it's function and would it be best to put my original one onto the new rack or will it not cause any recognition issues when powered back up?
Best Regards Chris.

Hello @TimeforaTee1 ,
Welcome to 6speedonline !

As to you steering rack removal, and the servotronic, the procedure has been talked about many times here on 6Speed, mainly in discussions of repairing the vacuum lines at the rack area, BUT, I am not sure that I recall anyone discussing the job on a RHD GT, so, it would be interesting to know if the RHD has something to do with your having to lower the subframe 5-10 mm, as all others that discussed the job here never lowered the subframe at all, maybe the clearance is different coming out of what would be a LHD's passenger side, as the LHD comes out on our driver's side.

BUT, of more importance, while you are in the rack area at the firewall, I would be checking all the vacuum lines with a smoke test, also, being that you have an 05, you also have the lines and solenoids over the top of the transmission.

As to the servotronic, I leave the rack as you received it.

Johnny

Hi Johnny, Thanks very much for the advice on the servotronic, I am checking all visable vacuum connectors while I have the rack out. Smoke test was fine but I am going to do another once the rack is back in just to double check before I refit the suspension etc.
Many thanks Chris.
