Gap in Continental GTC roof seal: intentional?

I was tidying up my new (to me) 2007 GTC, and noticed that there’s a space on both sides of the car where the convertible top doesn’t seal to the body. I can see right through from the outside to the interior of the car. Is this normal? As far as I can tell, there’s no structure in the top in those sections that could hold and weather seal, so I’m assuming this is intentional for some reason. The “missing” seal is just behind the start of the panel gap between the lid for the convertible top storage space. You can see it in my photo where light comes through from inside the car underneath the closed top. Is this normal?

Thank you for uploading a picture. That is quite an interesting discovery, and I can't imagine that it should be that way. I know that there have been issues with the metal framing of the convertible tops breaking, but for you to have it break at the same point on both sides seems very unlucky, if that's the case.

I'll add that after buying the car last weekend, we drove it in the rain and it sat overnight in the rain - and as far as I can tell no water made it into the car. I'll take a closer look at the mechanism today and try to figure out of there's something wrong.

Looking at the structure of the top, I don't see any structure to which the weather stripping would attach to seal the gap I'm seeing on both sides. Here's the gap again:

And here's how the top looks in that section:

The weather stripping just ends, and there's nothing after that = no section of the frame to provide any sort of seal against the body. It's odd, but doesn't seem to be causing any problem. The only way you'd get water in the car through there is if you spray water at that gap from the side. It would take some very high wind to blow rain in there.

I'll call the place that performed my PPI on Monday to get their take on this. They see a lot of Bentleys, so I'm assuming they'd know.

Never owned the soft top but looking at other 2007's on CarGurus it looks like a common issue.
