Hi guys. I’m new here and new to Bentley ownership. I have been scrolling through posts to find an answer to no avail.

I have a 2017 continental gt speed in need of some major engine work. I have my own shop in Tampa so labor and tools isn’t an issue.

My issue is finding parts.

I have found an engine I could use as a donor however it’s from a 2012 first edition. Does anyone know if the engine Internals from the older engine are compatible with my second gen engine?

I appreciate your wealth of knowledge and any advice on parts you can advise me with.

I look forward to reading through more of your interesting threads and finding out all the quirks of owning a Bentley.

 

There is also a very informative Bentley Continental GT page on FaceBook that has a couple certified Bentley techs that participate. You might try there as well. It is the one Bentley CGT page that has the most members - can't recall. the exact name of the page at the moment.

You have probably seen this in looking through some of the posts, but some of the general parts can be matched up to VW parts, but your mileage may vary on that. Some of the parts have the same exact number (I have found parts beginning in N as an example) Also, for example on my 2005, the original oxygen sensor part number have been superseded with 1K0998262D and 1K0998262B, both of which match the current VW number which is half the Bentley cost. The Bosch original cost (if it is actually the same quality as what VW/Bentley uses) is half of the VW cost. Other part numbers you need to change the first three characters to get the equivalent Audi or VW part, but I am not sure if they are always a match or not. I will find out shortly when I switch out a number of parts on my car when my engine is out.
For my specific car, I look at the 2005 Phaeton and see what they used on that vehicle and see if it looks the same or not. It's hit or miss at times. It hasn't bit me yet, but I know it will be coming if I choose the wrong part.

annoyingly I just paid for an engine and the guy emailed me saying he sold it last week so now I’m waiting on a refund 🤦🏻‍♂️.

I’ll start looking at VW parts however it’s the piston and rod I need and I’m pretty sure the gt speed has lightened pistons compared to the rest of the range.

I may go down the route of having custom forged pistons made.

I guess I better get stripping the engine and getting part numbers to see if I can cross reference.

I’ll keep you guys updated if I find any useful cross over parts.

trust me to buy the engine that’s the odd one out from all the rest 😂😂.

 

@Blackstonefleet Could you expand a bit on the "major engine work" on this somewhat newer model, especially a Speed? What happened exactly? Mileage on that motor? Curious for sake of knowing what types of failure(s) may occur.

 

I don’t know exactly how the damage happened as I bought the car knowing the engine wasn’t running.

so far I’ve only removed the lower oil pan to take a look and found large pieces of piston and crank case in the pan.

The car was low on coolant too however I put this down to the accident it had however I could be wrong.

my suspicion is it was owned by a rental company and someone decided to test the limit of the car without having the ability to handle it.

I will be pulling the engine in the next week. I’ve taken over a corner of my shop to use for myself as I feel this project is going to take a few months.

I’ll add some pics as I go if anyone is interested in seeing my progress or advising me as I go.

I had the same question a while ago and found a bunch of matching parts through Ovoko. Super useful if you're trying to compare original reference numbers or want to see what else fits without guessing. Found some Continental bits that matched Porsche part numbers with no trouble.

 

Wait till it gets a little colder up north and then offer JohhnyHotspur a working vacation in Tampa.
