2017 Continental Trunk Lid not opening all the way!
Fellow Bentleains,
I’m new to this forum coming from the BMW, Maserati family, so excuse my ignorance.
The trunk lid of my 2017 Continental convertible doesn’t open all the way up with the press of the remote. I have to use my hand to raise it. Is that normal? Should it raise all the way? The issue actually started at the dealership during delivery last week, but didn’t think anything of it until now.
Any idea what might be causing this? User error probably? I don’t have an owners manual, yet. Help!

Much appreciated hq_, taking it to dealer next week for that and a multi point inspection to ensure the CPO is valid.
Colleagues,
As many you have surmised, it was the the gas strut. Parts are being ordered from the UK and should arrive in 10 business days, thanks to CPO. By the way, the massage units are also being replaced because of intermittent functionality.

Trunk Struts not the issue…trunk refuses to raise with remote!
Replacement of the trunk struts did not fix the issue. The trunk, while it opens with the remote, does not rise open.
Any idea on what else should be considered?

Update:
The trunk lid is still problematic. While it opens, it does not raise the lid to full open, as a matter of fact it does not raise the trunk lid at all, just unlocks.
The struts and trunk motor have been replaced, claimed by the dealership, but the issue still persists. I just sent it back to the dealership because it is under warranty.
Any idea on what might be causing this issue? I’m losing my patience. This was the first thing I noticed when I purchased this vehicle last June. Neither I nor the salesman could get the trunk lid to open i.e. raise with a press of the remote or “B” on the trunk.
Brian.

Gas struts, trunk motor and module replaced. System works as designed i.e. the trunks open fully with the press of the remote or Bentley button. Now, the confirmation “beep” does not sound when the system arms. Thoughts?
Your 2017 Continental Convertible's trunk lid should fully open when activated by the remote or the interior release—it’s not normal for it to stop midway and require manual lifting. Here’s what might be happening and how to address it:
### **Possible Causes & Solutions:**
1. **Weak or Dying Struts/Gas Springs**
- The most common issue is failing hydraulic struts that assist in lifting the trunk. Over time, they lose pressure.
- **Test:** Try lifting the trunk manually—if it doesn’t stay open on its own or feels heavy, the struts need replacement.
2. **Trunk Lid Motor/Actuator Issue**
- Some Continentals have power-assisted trunk mechanisms. If the motor is weak or the actuator is faulty, it may not complete the opening cycle.
- **Check:** Listen for unusual noises (grinding, clicking) when opening.
3. **Software/Calibration Glitch**
- The trunk may need a reset. Try:
- Disconnecting the car battery for 10+ minutes to reset systems.
- Holding the remote’s trunk button for 3+ seconds to see if it relearns the full range.
4. **Obstruction or Misalignment**
- Debris or misaligned hinges can prevent full opening. Inspect the trunk edges and hinges for blockages or damage.
5. **User Error (Unlikely but Possible)**
- Ensure you’re pressing and holding the trunk button (on the remote or dash) until it completes the cycle. A quick tap might only release the latch.
### **Next Steps:**
- **Check the struts first**—this is the easiest fix.
- **Consult the dealer** since the issue was present at delivery—they may cover it under warranty or goodwill.
- **Get the manual** online
