@scrinja ,
I do not have the unit in front of me to double check the removal procedure, but, just from looking at some pictures, I think this may be how, you would pull the metal tang/s inside the lighter element socket inwards, and lift it out at the same time, as there are two tangs, it's the one on the deepest side of the orange/red lighting housing, after the socket is pulled out, you will see on the underside the two tabs to push in on the orange piece, that will then let that piece come out through the top also.

Edit: PLEASE SEE NEXT POST FOR SECONDARY OPTION.

Otherwise, if you want me to be 100% on the disassembly, it will not be until the 2nd or 3rd.

@scrinja ,
Please be sure to read my prior comment, as in thinking just after my posting my last comment, I had the thought explained below, so, it may be either, but I am thinking that this is it.

I think it may be the two nubs holding the socket in place, I would gently push them in as lifting the socket out, then the two tabs on the orange piece are as described previously.

@Johnny Hotspur GT

Yes Johnny i was thinking the same as alot of VW are removed that way with the orange tangs ....I have put all the consoles back in now so it will have to go on the back burner for now
The problem is the recess in the location of the lighter.... trying to press in the two tangs it is very restricted to get access to get in there and i was worried about damageing mine
I did look all over to try and find out how to remove it
I dont have access to the Bentley repair manual i would have though it might have been in there ...
If they sell them you can fit them easily when there out ! ,,,,Even If broken already you would still struggle to remove them i feel Johnny

If the existing lighter socket works you can use something like this that sits flush with the top of the socket. I've been using one for years.

yeah the only reason I was interested is that my socket has a aux input also which I fancied popping my Alexa into as thought about it for garage opening when coming up the road or whatever.
