2015 Continental GT V8S Boot/Trunk Lid Not Opening
2015 Continental GT V8S Boot/Trunk Lid Not Opening
Hi all,
Father has a 2015 Continental GT V8S and the boot/trunk no longer opens. It was working fine before but he recently had the car on trickle charge and left the boot open while charging, once it was done charging, he disconnected the charger and closed the lid. Since then, he hasn't been able to get the lid open.
The instrument cluster indicates that the car thinks the boot is open. This stays on the instrument cluster even after locking the car and coming back the next morning so is probably another reason want to sort this out asap as it will drain the battery.
Neither the remote fob, emblem button on boot/trunk or the boot release button switch in drivers cabin have any response. Tried also pulling the manual release behind the rear seat but not doing anything and seems seized, I feel if we pull any harder it will snap the cable. Searched some other posts and someone recommended having someone sit on the boot/trunk while pulling the manual release cable but that didn't work either.
Put it on VCDS and got the 2 codes below which won't clear:
1. 0001 - Internal Control Module Memory Check Sum Error. B2000 43 [00011000] - Special Memory Failure
2. 0081 - Motor for Closing Assist. B125F 14 [10001001] - Open or Short to Ground. MIL ON - Confirmed.
I tried actuating the boot/trunk open using VCDS basic settings but no luck. I suppose the fuse for the motor is inside the boot/trunk so we can't reach that to check.
Just putting this here in the hope that there are any other suggestions before we resort to cutting the boot
Thank you

Hello @Hamodi ,
As to pulling the emergency release lever behind the seat, it is not just someone sitting on the bootlid, you have to bounce it up and down, personally I would give the bootlid a couple of good shots with the palm of your hands downward, and a few shots of the side of your fist in the lower latch area, do this to see if you can get the message in the instrument cluster to go away, then the lid should open normally, if not, do the same while someone else pulls the lever.
Not to rough, but a lot more than gentle..

Once I opened the lid, the instrument cluster now thinks that the boot is actually closed. So when the lid is open, the motor does actuate when I try press the boot unlock button on the boot, the remote key fob or the drivers seat button. Then once I close the lid, it again thinks it's open and no longer responds to the buttons and I have to open it again using the manual release cable. Very strange.
I did try to disconnect both batteries for a couple hours after I gained access to the boot, but after reconnecting it still had the same symptoms and still couldn't clear the codes. I even tried disconnecting the batteries, then manually latching the lock with a screwdriver before reconnecting the batteries in the hope that it wakes up still thinking it's closed when actually closed, but the instrument cluster still says the opposite of reality.
Have you come across this before? Is there any way to diagnose between a faulty control module or latch motor without throwing parts at the car?
Thanks again.

I had this once after adding the power lift and close motor, not that I think it had anything to do with adding the motor, I believe that leaving the lid open for days on end messed with it somehow, it's only the second time that I recall the power latch itself ever doing the calibration sequence on it's own, I locked the latch just as you did with a screwdriver, then used the B button to pop, but I never disconnected the batteries, iirc I used the screwdriver twice, and the latch went through it's motions, of course this is with the lid open fully up.
