Never rains but it pours

So was out in the Bentley today up the slopes skiing, and since my drivers window switch is awaiting a part which I hope to sort this week, I dropped the back two windows for some fine mountain fresh air.......... gets home, and puts the windows up and the rear passenger closes with a bang! I'm like ffs seriously...what now....surely not a cracked window or something....anyway dropped the window again and now it wont come up...... just making some horrible grinding noise....... whats the chances its just come off the runner or something or do we think its a part needed before I pop the door card off!!

Answers on a postcard...... (thats a uk TV catchphrase btw....)

It is seriously trying me this week!! I dunno how long I can put up with the challenges......its probaly just spitting out parts cos I use it!! Previous owner hardly used it, and sat it in storage for a while.

zissis is infamous around these parts
Welcome to the club. This year I had to ...
  • Get new rear air suspension
  • Replace the rear center break light
  • Replace the rear glass that broke when they removed the rear center break light
  • Fix the dreaded cracked vacuum lines going into the intake manifold
  • replace the passenger's side folding mirror motor
  • Drop in a new full leather headliner
  • Replaced the broken trunk (boot) drain mechanism
  • Service the spark plugs (did an oil change as well since they where in there)
  • Get new tires due to dry rot from non use
  • Refinished all rims
After all of that, decided to keep the car so I upgraded the cluster and infotainment to a 2025 spec

With all that money spent and the car now fully sorted and upgraded you would think I would sell it and end this cycle but ... nope! Turning it into a daily driver. Ahhh the Bentley life! lol

Its good to know I am not alone @zissis !!!! lol Your car is looking a million dollars btw!!! I am definately doing your dash and centre console upgrades this year!!

I´d like to do the steering wheel and your dash, and centre console for a bit of a facelift. Is your car a Speed or did it just have the Speed bumper? Oh I need to replace mine hence why I ask.

@1eapplebaum thanks that sounds useful, so will check it out!! I guess the challenge is daily use!!!

So it looks like something like possibly a white disc has exploded!! the cable possibly seems ok, tbh, but something behind the motor and black foam partition that the motor attaches to has broken.......what a PITA

Yes mine is a Speed. I don't know if Speed bumpers fit the non Speed variants though.

So from what I seen, a Speed bumper is what they put on ALL 08 onwards cars Speed or not, so I might try and get a Speed bumper.

On the original topic I see the repair kits now, and a full regulator, so looks like I will be freezing my a$$ off for a few days until I can get a new one. a kit is about half the price but you just know it will be torture to install!!

I need to just get a load of parts and give it to my garage as I am so back logged with work I just wont have time to do all this. but looks like the regulator has exploded.

Will try and duct tape the window in up position and remove the regulator if I have time, but it says on ChatGPT to not remove the motor itself but tape the window up strong then remove the regulator and motor at the same time, and dismantle on bench. So I clearly need a work bench going forward!! lol

I am going to the BMW dealer to see what cars they have in stock, and might consider a X4M they have to keep me mobile etc. Maybe the Bentley really is a 2nd or 3rd car!!

To be fair, the cars are fairly plug and play when it comes to bolts and interior removal, just time consuming really, and slow access to spare parts being a Bentley, but if its a VAG part then maybe quicker access. It does say there is Phaeton parts for this , but to watch out for Audi version that have bad geometry like an A3 part etc.

Kit arrived from Turkey, and looks perfect. Thanks for the tip @1eapplebaum

Now looking like I will need to fit it as my mechanic is too busy.....or just doesnt want the job. Anyway I have a few YT videos and OTIS and will go and buy a rivet gun tomorrow as it looks like I need that to replace the 4.8mm rivets in the regulator housing (3 of). Apparently M5 bolts, with washer and nyloc nut will also work, but I think buying a rivet gun will be just as cheap and useful to have. 5mm drill might be suffice to get them out.

So it looks like now I have spotted what actually shattered.......the top pulley......the top version of this (bottom is pictured)

Is this replaceable or is it new window Regulator time? Raging as regulator repair kit seemed a good option!!!

Actually this looks like what I bought, which looks like it has one pulley so I maybe saved!!!

I maybe now just need to remove the window and the regulator in total to repair it.......
