Bentley SUV???

Rumours have suggested for a long time that the car will be coming and German owner Volkswagen is certainly keen on broadening the range of Bentley.

An SUV would fit perfectly to the image of the British make. On top, it would make perfect sense to let Porsche do the basic engineering as the Stuttgart firm was heavily involved in developing VW’s own Touareg SUV – and, of course, their own Cayenne.
Besides these two plus Audi’s new Q7, a Bentley SUV would be the fourth model to be built around the same platform and technique – and there might even be a Lamborghini derivative, though latest information from Sant’ Agata say that the Lambo 4x4 is still some years away.

While underpinnings wouldn’t differ much from those used for the three existing SUVs, power is likely to come from both, the Arnage’s 6.75-litre V8 with 475 bhp and the Continental GT’s 6-litre W12 TwinTurbo developing 560 bhp.

TEST MULE????

Is bentley going to bother to design any cars, or are they just going to slap the same interior, front, and rear on different VW platforms? IMO the Cayenne and that thing you call a Bentley are both fugly!

"A SUV would fit perfectly to the image of the British make."

Yeah whatever.

There already is a Bentley/Jaguar SUV, it's called Range Rover.

My thoughts exactly... Why bother an Audi VW Porsche is enough on one platform. Now what we really need is a bentley minivan for the new rage of pimped out car pools

Correct me if I'm wrong. RR is owned by ford... so why shouldn't VW try to steel some customers away from their english SUV's?
I think it makes sense.. financialy anyways... Of course, I think they should completly redesign it, because this isn't the prettiest SUV out there.
Now, most said the same thing about the cayenne... some still think it's ugly... but most think it's the best SUV out there.

Oh and btw, with the cayenne being porsche's biggest seller - it's helping porsche invest more into the beloved 911... so it did make a lot of sense business wise.
And it didn't hurt the sales of the 911's or boxter/caymans...

VW already has 3 vehicles that share platforms -- they profit from all three. To ruin the Bentley marquee anymore with platform sharing is stupid....

I know Ford owns LR, the comment was more meant towards the fact that there is already a classy british 4x4 out there and there really isn't any need to ruin the image of Bentley.

Man I hope they don't do it. I hold Bentley, and especially the C GT and Flying Spur, in very high regard. Building a car on that platform would dilute the brand in my opinion. Plus, regardless of who owns what, the Rover looks about 100x better than at least these initial drawings, again IMO.

UPDATE:

World’s most luxurious SUV

According to insider information the famous Volkswagen-owned British car maker Bentley is about to go off road. Dubbed “Cross Continental” the new model is set to rival the Porsche Cayenne, VW Touareg, Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator.
Hardly known, but the first steps into the SUV market were already made by Bentley years ago when they built just one Range Rover-based 4x4 named Dominator for some very rich and famous celebrity – back then.

Now that the luxury SUV market does not show any signs of slowing down but rather keeps going, Bentley is about to develop a genuine production 4x4 SUV, this time based on the next generation VW Touareg-Porsche Cayenne platform. Development of this platform is currently being tested by using various existing Cayenne mules. The Bentley 4x4 SUV is expected to be powered by a 6.0 litre Twin Turbo W12 engine from the Bentley Continental GT delivering 560 HP.

Its estimated price tag is 120.000 British Pounds. Speculations suggest that at least a concept car for the new model could debut at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show.

That may be the ugliest SUV I have ever seen.....And I agree, how about designing instead of putting the same front, rear and interior on VW platforms
