Boo is infamous around these parts
C63 - 116
M3 - 113
RS4 - 108

I think the most telling #'s are the top gear 30-50 and 50-70 acceleration tests though.
C63 - 2.3, 3.0
M3 - 6.8, 5.9
RS4 - 7.3, 6.4

Anyone buying a M car for the right reason wouldn't care about top gear acceleration lol. Let alone the MBZ only comes in an autotragic. The whole point of the M car is to be engaged and rev the hell out of it, I know personally as a BMW nut (6 so far) straight line magazine games are hardly a concern of mine.

I mean I agree with you generally but whats this? The AMG still has a good old-fashioned torque-converter gearbox does it not? Perhaps I've been living under a rock however. But technically speaking I thought the only thing it really had incommon with an SMG was that it changed gears? I personally would take a torque-converter gearbox over an automated (single) clutch gearbox any day though.

i, along with 90% of M3 owners never tracked my car, i did, street race it when i got the chance, and a very few times, i lost, but the old M3 always won against the C32 and C55, now its a different story, without a lotto mods the new M3 fails in straight line races to the C63

i know bmw lover hate MB and other competition out there, but there is no sense it arguing every other point out of it (handling, rev's, gearbox, interior), to make it such a better "amazing feat of engineering" just because the MB is faster...

and a magazine game of 3.9 and 12.3 @ 116, should be quite a concern, no matter how bad of a driver is, the C63 will always come out of top (in a straight line blah blah blah) with numbers like that
It just comes down to simply different strokes for different folks, however this being the designated BMW section I feel I should be able to share my outlook without much worry.

The M5 has never been offered with an automatic nor has any real M car (minus the US spec E36 M3).

Before you buy, drive one. BMW's smg is by far not a conventional automatic. Its lightning quick, just like F1 transmission, where it was based upon, and feels more like a manual rather than a "lexus" automatic. Its not smooth, but the gear changes are spectacular with spirited driving. Its not something I would like to drive after a long day at work, I would rather be driven home in a smooth couch on wheels like a lexus. But if you want to "play", the M5 with SMG would not disappoint.
