E46 M3 values ? now that the E92 is right around the corner?

Just wondering on everybody's opinions on e46 m3 values now that the new version is about to be released. I have heard that they will fall, and appreciate in value. What is everybody's take on this?

They have fallen pretty hard as of late. Lots of sellers are out of touch w/ reality in terms of their asking price. I do think, however, that they will not drop further. The real cause has been the 335i more so than the new M3.

I think they'll drop and stabalize but they won't appreciate, just too many of them around. I can only see the ZCPs holding value better and the CSL, dropping less and appreciating with time and the GTRs not dropping at all.

Since the M3 was produced in a large quantity they will continue to fall in standard fashion of age and depreciation. I do not think they will TANK as some people have said on the other forums. It is still a desirable car and for the most part the //M enthusiasts are either on the fence with the new E92 //M or they really just love the E46 //M. I am on the E46 //M side.

If you look for on 01 //M3 or an 03 //M3 you won't find a 6K gap. The GAP closes in pretty close between the 01,02 and 03's.

IMO the prices might drop little more after the new M3 is introduced and then it will level off.

You can find '03 M3s in very good condition around 30K.

E39 M5 and E46 M3 are just awesome vehicles! If I wouldn't plan on attending grad school in the near future, I'd be driving M car already!!!

the prices have continued plummeting. i think the current market price is very fair. when the E92 comes out they will begin to level off because the prices have already dropped significantly in preparation for the new model. the E36 did the same but if u check now prices have not changed much in the last 3 years. if ur in the market u should probably wait until just before the new model releases(delivery month)... why? because a bunch of people will be desperate to get rid of their E46s very fast to get the new one already. the list for the E92s are very full and expanding

My 02 M3 was offered 17K by the dealer last night for a trade in.
26-26.5K is the best for my year right now.

So yeah, it WILL depreciate quick!

ZCP's will not fair any better, it's just an option package after all with better looking rims and a suede steering wheel, and different suspension. It's not like it made any more power. e46's held their value very well up to now. I do believe also they will take a small plunge due to the new 335 making great power but will taper off and stabilze after the introduction of the new M3

Down down down.....

Its a mass produced car, its going up in price.

Doubt they will get as cheap as E36's (mid/low teens) but should level out slightly higher than that.

i think it will hold its values better than non M cars and basically follow the trend of the previous ///M cars - relatively stable depreciations.

The '01 will be getting into the low 20's shortly, if they are not already there.

Ouch. I picked up my 01 M3 for $30k a little over 2 yrs ago. That'd be about $4k depreciation per year (13%). I think this partially depends on your region too. Some markets are propped up better than others, especially snowbelt versus sunshine states...

I don't think M3 owners can complain, they are seeing depreciation closer(but still much better) to the average. A 2002-2003 M3 should be about $22-$25k and even then they are seeing only 50% depreciation. Those that don't think M3's will be dropping into the 20's very soon are not paying attention. You can pick up 2004 and 2005's in the mid 30's now.
