They did....

I don't agree the M is in a totally different class, but the way my finances are right now I don't have the money to just say screw it and shell out for an M3 AND modify it (which everyone on here knows I can't leave anything stock). So when money is a thought I really have to consider than a 335 is 20K cheaper and I can do bodykit, wheels, suspension, and power upgrades (to almost 450HP) for $10,000 or less!!!

Yes, $20K difference. But for a 335 to compare equivalently (LSD, BBK, Wheels, Coilovers, Engine work, Aero kit), it will be $20K to never see again.

In the end, the 335 might win.. the exclusivity of the M3 (I dont care if they are making 100K of them - - they are going to make 200K 3 series probably) matched with the heritage, high revving V8 will ignite my senses.

Why didn't people supercharge and modify E46 330ci?
Wyatt,

You speak as though the M3 has a force field around it that deflects depreciation. This couldn't be any further from the truth! That thing is going to depreciate just like any other high volume production vehicle.

People did supercharge E46 330's. The deal is those vehicles don't respond to mods like the 335's do. I suggest you have a look around the forums if you want to actually see how 335's perform with minimal mods.

Damn the heritage mumbo jumbo because it's appealing to the elitist jaw jackers...basically marketing bull ****. The performance actually tells the tale.

If you modify a 335 as you stated it'll walk all over an M3. I'm hear to tell you that it won't take that much coin to do so though.

I can take a 10 grand budget, an E92 335, and beat the **** out of an E92 M3 and give you a nice bit of change back...

naseem, you def dont beat around the bush, and i like that

from what ive seen this is absolutely true. you can easily get a chip for 500 (adds 50-70 rwhp/tq), down pipes for 650 (adds 25-30 rwhp/tq), a nice big IC to maintain hp/tq for about 1500, and a limited slip diff for 2K and coils for 1400...so for 6 grand, youre going to have a car that is fast as hell and handles well too. so for 47K for a new 335 and 6k for mods, 53K is still below the base price of even an m3 sedan. im sure there are a few other power mods you can do that will add some more hp numbers but even dps, and chip will get you damn close to 400 rwhp/tq for less than 2000.

Here's a vid with JB2, a couple H-pills (requires 93 octane for the pill, and then a mix of race gas for the R-switch), Borla exhaust and catless down pipes. This set up pulled 11.89 1/4 mile on another car.

The car that went 11.89 had the stock exhaust with catless DP's!
