How much time do you spend on the track? If you want a track purpose car only buy a Lotus Exige S that will run circles around a new M3, or IS-F or C63......if having a superior track car is your only claim to fame then that is a shame because there is so much more to a performance car. The same arguement applies for C63 owners claiming they can go low 12's stock and little else. The bottom line is that BMW and M cars have been the benchmark for all-around performance sedans but MB and Lexus and even Audi are closing the gap.....fast! If you look at the grand scheme of things, this will benefit the performance market because it will force companies like BMW to step up their game i.e. when Audi came out with the RS4, then Lexus made the IS-F, then MB with the C63......who wins? Me and you, the consumer. More options, better options....win win situation

...yes actually, it will...Unless the m3 has another 500 lbs out, some sticky tires, race pads and a straight thats atleast the size of VIRs, the m3 will be significantly slower...
these days... I will keep the hyperbole in check
Just a list over at Top Gear I found interesting (yes that is an Exige S beating the M3 and cars four times as much around the track)

If all you wanted was a weekend warrior to take to the track, I think the majority of car enthusiasts in general would look no further than the Exige S 240
no disrespect to Jmoney.....sorry to go off topic
congrats bro....when we hooking up for a ride.....hurry up and break that baby in....

The Elise is an SCCA T2 car. The SC possibly T1. Same with the M3.
NASA probably puts them in the same class too.
ok show me some evidence that an exige S running circle around an E92/90 m3 on a track. taking the lap time from Top Gear's track exige s is only 0.2 sec faster than the M3 sedan, thats a pretty tight track if you ask me. im no way an magazine racer, but thats just an example. i have to see it to believe theres a day and night track performance between the two that you are saying.

I guarantee you that any non pro driver will be running atleast 3 seconds faster on nearly any track with the lotus...plus, if one were to really race, the exige would hold up for 10s more laps than the m3 stock...the M3 would be a DNF!!! Unless a one lap fly is your idea of a real speed comparison...then it ends up being pretty unfair...
