335i hits 11.99@117.5mph almost stock!
Hey guys just thought I'd share this with you about a friends run in Sacramento this weekend I don't think he's a member here but i'll post it here for your enjoyment. This is a copy paste of his post on another board that I cannot link to due to board rules. So here it is.
" Hey Guys, I meant to post this yesterday, but didn’t get back from my 800 mile trip to Sacramento till midnight. I had wanted to go to the Famoso event this weekend, but they were booked out at only 10 cars. Besides it was $258 per car! Sacramento had a 30-40% chance of rain in the forecast, and I was just crossing my fingers that the track day wouldn’t get cancelled after that long drive up there.
I am so glad I made it to Sacramento Raceway. It is a beautiful place. The lines are short, and everyone is nice up there from the front booth to the lane workers. Even all the car buffs would come over (Including Shiv), and talk cars. In fact, if you recall in my posts, I had this trip planned a couple of weeks ago. I just found out a couple of days ago that Shiv and KTDW were possibly going to be out there testing. Soon as I saw the 135I I went out hunting for Shiv. I was going to demand for him to inspect my car to his satisfaction. When I finally found him, I was rather astonished how non-confrontational he was. He was very pleasant, and in fact, seemed to dismiss the whole nitrous thing as water under the bridge. Later on, him and KTDW came by, and I offered for them to look at the car. They just kind of looked under the hood, had me pull my air filter element, looked in the wheel wells, etc. But all in all, they just seemed to be there not for their suspicion, but rather as fellow car enthusiasts having fun tuning their car, and trying different things.
I again made several passes above 117.00 mph with my best being a 11.991 @117.524 mph. I never did say it before, but this car is something special. To see this car running with tune only (+fuel/tires), getting these kind of exceptional numbers is astonishing. I believe KTDW set his best ET also. His mph might have been down a little from his previous tests of (117.609), but that may have been a result of the terrible 60’ time (2.228) he had on that higher mph run on that particular day. We even got the opportunity to run side by side, but his run was incomplete. Either way, to see my car on the same day turning numbers right there with a lighter 135I with intercooler, downpipes, intake, and straight exhaust is pretty darn impressive indeed. My trap was only .085mph slower. Not bad for a tune only car!
The track really started to deteriorate in the latter part of the test and tune. Both Shiv and I really started getting some inconsistent runs. Here is some food for thought though. Take a look at the 3 cars on drag times that ran in the 11’s. The 60’ times were as follows: 1.772/1.661/1.664 seconds. Can you imagine if I even did as good as the worst one on that short list? (1.772 sec). The car would have run a 11.791 with even that fair 60’ time.
As I was driving home, I realized what an awesome car it is that we have. On the exact same 11.99 ET race map that I have been driving around with for a couple of weeks now, the car averaged 26.7mpg for the first 150 miles (with my GF driving). We were going about 80mph. Then on cruise control at 90mph the instantaneous seemed to settle around 25mpg, and around 100mph it was anywhere between 20-23.5mpg. So to reiterate, this is not some radical non-civilized race map, but rather one that seems to be running great in my car with 91-93 octane also. When I looked at some of the cars that I beat on the track with their loud exhaust, etc…it is amazing how civilized and refined our cars are when cruising there 800 miles to/from the track also. The fact that I have won about 15 races in a row now, only adds to the enjoyment, LOL.
Let me also add that after I made my 11.99 run, Shiv and KTDW both came up to congratulate me. And when they went home before me, they personally came over to say good bye. Again, another confirmation that even though the tuning wars can get a bit vicious at times, the people behind them are generally good-hearted, well meaning people trying to do their jobs the best that they can."
So Just to clarify his mods
NO Downpipes
NO Intercooler
NO Exhaust
Only
104octane
DR Tires
Plug N' Play JB3 Tune
and some Air filters
